The Rush to Rehab

Don Day | October 10, 2003

Rush Limbaugh is entering rehab for his addiction to pills. I think everyone should be happy the man is getting the help he needs – and swallowing your pride is probably not the easiest thing to do… on national radio no less.

But all the time’s he’s railed on drug addicted people? Maybe now he will come down off his high horse…

And now a note about KBOI

Don Day | October 10, 2003

KBOI’s coverage of the BSU football games is sounding great, week in, week out.

Paul J. has been calling the games for, what, 30 years? His excitement is contagious – and is part of the BSU experience for me. The station has done a nice job with imaging and packaging. The Bronco Game Night is a great idea – taking calls from the fans after a game works very well.

The station has a modified logo – with the shape of Idaho incorporated. Take a look.

Kallao moves on

Don Day | October 10, 2003

(Steve) Kallao is making the X, well… his ex. The night slammer is headed to KRNK in Portland to co-host the umm… some show. Afternoons? Whatever.

Morning mourning

Don Day | October 10, 2003

KSAS-FM couldn’t get their Mojo going… Apparently. The much-ballyhooed morning guy is out – for now replaced by KISS PD Hoss Grigg.

Can any of the pop stations get a stable morning show? Maybe Magic should have kept Steve & Steph all those years ago.

Hmmmm.

I swear it was rigged

Don Day | October 10, 2003

I think Ken Bass was the heir apparent at the River from day one.

As you’ve possibly heard, Ken Bass is the new “other half” of the KRVB-FM 94.9 The River Morning Show. It’s called “The River Morning Show with Ken Bass & Teri Tate.” Cool — Ken Bass is really one of the best in the biz – and will be great on the River’s format, and probably bring numbers up.

Just remember, CC dropped Ken from KXLT, and soon after, the ratings went down (as did KCIX-FM’s ratings when Ken left K-106 back in the day.)

Should be a ride.

But I still think it’s rigged (remember the reference to it being OK if you were in the biz to apply for the River Replacement Tour?)

All this positive glowing stuff about The River – but I swear, I’m still sad they dumped KF95 and “evolved” as Mr. Rosenthal said in his opening comments as The River launched. I’ll never forget the Boise Weekly “last independent radio station on earth” cover story. Alec Crissak was a great radio owner…

River Rumblings.

Don Day | October 7, 2003

OK… I know I know… all I do is talk about the River, Magic 93 and KISS FM. I promise to round it out with more of the rest of the dial.

BUT: The River has redone riverinteractive.com. I don’t like it. The former site fit the image the station had on air. Now it’s all gray and slick.

Now the station is up to something. The new site is teasing some big secret. They say an announcement comes Tuesday at noon – and to “keep Wednesday night open.”

Elsewhere on the site – it says it’s courtesy AOL — who made fun of Boise a few weeks ago.

Hmm.

Did KZMG lose it’s taste for the Flava?

Don Day | October 6, 2003

If you tuned in to Magic 93.1 this Saturday – you didn’t hear the Flava. The station has been spinning tunes on vinyl for the last (almost) three years one night a week.

The show started on Friday nights – then expanded to Fri/Sat – then segued to just Saturday nights.

OK, history lesson over. This past Saturday, Jayar Reed was on the air at 8pm – with no DJ Ceezer, and no records spinning. The show is still listed on the station’s website. No reference was made to the change in the first hour or so. Is it permanent?

UPDATE: Yeah, it’s permanent. They took the Flava off their website.

Radio prank leaves DJ in cuffs

Don Day | October 3, 2003

Channel 7 has a story about a Boise radio prank gone awry this week…

Apparently a KCIX-FM Mix 106 personality drove around town with someone else in the trunk – pounding on the trunk lid while sitting in drive through lines. A number of people called 911 and the driver was cuffed. (He was not arrested).

Krispy Kreme opens Tuesday

Don Day | October 2, 2003

Krispy Kreme’s first (and for now only) Idaho store opens TUESDAY morning at the corner of Eagle & Fairview. Morning teams should note that traffic is expected to be a mess – and lines could begin forming Monday night.

How about a Krispy Kreme wedding cake… ewwww.

Not much new – just a thought

Don Day | October 2, 2003

I mentioned earlier that I really do love the new imaging on KTPZ. However, many of the promos & bumpers have a pause after the “The Monster is back” line. It almost sounds like they were trying to leave a pause for a monster sound effect – instead the sound of dead air resonates. Hmmm…
