KTPZ with a new website

Don Day | December 30, 2003

The Music Monster is online once again (even though they aren’t actually on-air in the Valley right now).

Do you ever wonder what exactly the face attached to that voice rolling out of your speakers looks like? The cutie at right is Calli Brooks – who I couldn’t ever really picture… until I saw the, uh, picture.

One more Monster note: I have to laugh at the “weather updates” the station does.

An example: “Weather on the Music Monster brought to you by Mor Furniture for less, with no financing, no interest and no payments until 2007, plus an incredible selection of futons and end-tables. Highs tonight in the 30s, lows in the 20s. Weather brought to you by Mor Furniture for Less on Fairview in Boise.”

OK, I don’t mind the sponsor billboard, I really don’t. But: How about the short-sell first, followed by a little beefier weather information — then the longer tag out.

KIKXin new website

Don Day | December 30, 2003

Wow… I really need to knock off the lame headlines.

Anyway — Idaho Radio Buff points out that KIKX.com has a new look. Not bad – though the previous website was pretty cool too.

Not so Sunny.. The Monster is sleeping

Don Day | December 27, 2003

KISY & KTPZ seem to be off the air in the Treasure Valley. One might wonder if Monster & Sunny are making the move to Table Rock for their Boise-area boosters.

Strange

Don Day | December 26, 2003

Just moments ago, the VTed DJ for KCIX-FM did a few run of the mill announcements – over a hip-hop loop (from a Pharell song). Ummm, isn’t Mix 106 a Hot AC station? Even using a hip hop loop for a voiceover seems strange. It would be like using a country loop on a rock station.

Come on.

Shannon on Kissin’

Don Day | December 20, 2003

Heard Steve Shannon on KIZN this week for the first time. Why is that people sound different when they are on a country station? Hmmmm…

Clearing the Air

Don Day | December 20, 2003

As you may have heard (and Idaho Radio Buff noted in the comments on my ‘it’s quiet’ post) – Air One radio is pushing it’s way in to the Treasure Valley.

A couple of notes of, um, note.

The station’s calls are KARO. Sound familiar? Those used to be the calls of 103.3 FM when it was pointing at rockers as Arrow 103.3.

Also, it’s kind of interesting that Jayar Reed, now of the KZMG-FM morning show used to be the night slammer for Air One (which is a national service, incidentally). KZMG definitely isn’t a Christian format…

Oh, and because Google is a wonderful thing, I’ve dug up an aircheck from Jayar Reed at AirOne. If you listen closely at about the 3:55 mark in the aircheck, you’ll hear 90.3 K-A-R-O niece-uh (uhh… it’s Nyssa). Thanks again to Idaho Radio Buff for tuning our ears to the mispronunciation.

Frick. It’s quiet

Don Day | December 19, 2003

I know you all probably think I’ve abandoned this.

Nah, I just don’t have much to say.

Anything going on out there? Drop me a line.

What goes around comes around and goes around again. Or something like that

Don Day | December 2, 2003

Brad Roen (formerly of The New 107.1 KCID, KTRV Fox 12 promotions, and KNIN-TV as Rot Wyler [and even popping up on the pilot of the Pyramid game show]) is in at KSAS-FM for mornings. He joins Misty and Troy Devries, and replaces temporary morning driver (and KSAS PD) Hoss Grigg. This after Mojo checked out.

He’s a nice guy – his personality at channel 9 is a bit odd to say the least… we’ll see how it works!

KISY & KTPZ granted permission…

Don Day | December 1, 2003

…to boost their signals (so says the FCC). Will a real assault on the Boise market (again) be next?

Very cool trip…

Don Day | December 1, 2003

I’m not sure why it’s called 440: Satisfaction, but it’s very cool.

The site lists radio personalities who have worked in Idaho (or other states)… take a peek, and hey, add yourself!

Let’s call this place Bonne—ville

Don Day | December 1, 2003

Major shifts in the Eastern Idaho/Utah radio landscape.

KZNR-A/KBLI-A/KZNI-A/KPLV-F/KFTZ-F have changed hands from Simmons Radio Group to the Mormon-church owned Bonneville Radio group.

But is this the end of the changes?

The Fox? C’mon

Don Day | December 1, 2003

KZMG has posted the copy to one of their spots online. A little copy editing wouldn’t hurt.

But the real point: Since when is Erica Fox known as “The Fox.” The Fox just doesn’t describe the beautiful girl Erica is (it makes me think it’s some old guy who smokes a pipe.)

I know, they don’t want “Big Boy and Jayar,” which both sound like fame monikersto stand in stark contrast to “Erica Fox.” Maybe make Big Boy Evan call himself “Evan,” then just say “The Magic Morning Show with Jayar, Erica and Evan.”

Hmm.
