Ratings: Citadel the big winner

Don Day | February 4, 2004

Citadel had a full third of the 12+ ratings points among its stations. Journal in second with 22.5 and CC taking third with 22.2.

Now you might be saying ‘hey, that’s not fair… Journal has fewer stations.’ OK, so let’s average the numbers. Citadel has an average of 6.6 points per station, Journal 4.5 and CC a paltry 3.7.

Ratings: Trending up, trending down

Don Day | February 4, 2004

The battle for the Oldies crown is getting interesting. KLTB is having a tough time. After losing Tracy & Margo to K-HITS, they kept sliding.

It’s quite interesting how Journal was able to take a floundering KCID, dump the AC, and go after the oldies realm with avengance. Just a great performance from these folks.

Ratings: Must be a party at KIZN

Don Day | February 4, 2004

KIZN had a WHOPPING 9.5 percent of the 12+ audience. This is the highest rating of any station since I started keeping track in ‘99. Kissin’ 92.3 was up 12 percent over their already stellar numbers in spring of ‘03.

That frog is dancin’…

Hotmail sucks.

Don Day | February 3, 2004

OK – here’s the deal. Hotmail’s spam filter is a little bit too zealous. I’ve missed some good stuff – for which I appologize. So if you’ve sent something my way, and I missed it – send it again — this time to news@idahoradionews.com.

Magic nights

Don Day | February 3, 2004

Nathan was in the Citadel building Friday. It’s my understanding that he got an on-air try out, however I didn’t hear it.

Here’s what I don’t get: Bambi puts on a pretty good show – pulling him makes little sense. Bringing someone in from way down Florida way is bizarre (especially throwing him on the air in Bambi’s slot).

Now here’s a little somethin’ bizarre: Nathan needs a roommate.

“I am getting flown out to boise from tampa florida on friday! to audition for magic 93.1 as the next night time DJ… ” he says in his appeal for a roommate.

He makes it sound like it’s a done deal… heck, he was already searching for a place to crash.

Stil open.

Don Day | February 3, 2004

This was the fifth post ever here on Idaho News, but I still have a sense of wonder: What is this job doing still posted? It’s an account manager at Plaza 7… are they really going to fill it? It’s been open nearly a year and a half!

Silent… or not?

Don Day | February 3, 2004

From our Eastern Idaho friend:

“The on-again – off-again saga of West Yellowstone’s KEZQ-FM and Island Park’s KWYS-FM is OFF AGAIN. Both stations have been silent for about a week (at least as of this morning). The FCC database of officially “silent” FM stations, which was updated on 1/31/04, does NOT show these stations as silent. So Alpine Broadcasting must have reported them back on the air by the FCC’s January 10 deadline and have not reported them silent again. So either Alpine is positioning the stations for re-launch OR they have taken them silent again??”

Old folks upset at KUPI

Don Day | February 3, 2004

The Sunday paper in Idaho Falls had a third letter-to-the-editor, uspet that KUPI-AM has changed formats.

The station has dumped the long-time standards playlist in favor of a satellite classic country format.

More proof Countdown is the best show ever

Don Day | February 1, 2004

Yeah, I’ll shut up about this eventually.

But first — The January 21st edition of the nightly program had an interesting take on the investigation report in to last September’s Thunderbird crash in Mountain Home.

Interesting take. (Oh, and you’ll notice the show says that crash happened in Boise, Idaho — so did just about every other national report. The AP screwed up… and as the AP goes…) It’s the second element in the video.

Hmm… When did that happen?

Don Day | February 1, 2004

KTPZ & KISY are no longer owned by American General Media. This has somehow escaped notice around here.

I started digging in to this after hearing an on-air ad for an account executive at KTPZ.

The spot was tagged with “Locally Owned Radio is an EO employer.” The FCC shows the transfer of ownership happening last summer.

The State of Idaho’s Business Entity Search shows LOR operating out of KTFI’s long time headquarters on Highway 30 outside of Twin Falls.

That same search engine is having some issues this evening, so I was unable to find out who exactly the principals in LOR are.
