KZMG’s running a national contest. They’re making it sound local. Were they purchased by CC and I missed it?

Old, but interesting

Don Day | March 4, 2004

Apparantely eagle-eared listeners to KKGL Boise heard about 15 minutes of Crook and Chase. This happened about 2 weeks ago.

Last time I checked, Citadel already had two country stations in the Boise market.

Now THERE’S a mistake.

Pickle Man has a big mouth.

Don Day | March 4, 2004

From AllAccess’s PD Chronicles. Read the letter, then I’ll ’splain.

“Dear PD: I’m definitely in that thing called a pickle. A week before the SuperBowl, I was flown into a small market CHR station on the other side of the country to audition for nights. After the audition I didn’t hear anything for two weeks. I found out the station was trying to make a deal with a jock who has been in that market before. So I did what any other jock would do… sent out more stuff!

Then I got introduced to a part-time opening in a top 20 market on a heritage CHR station that I grew up listening to! But yesterday, I got an e-mail from the small market station asking if I’m still interested in the night position. My question is this… what choice should I make to further my career? Should I take full-time in a small market… or part-time in a major market? If applying for a night slot at another station (let’s say a medium market), which candidate would you hire? One with the part time major market experience…or full-time small market?”

So what? My source say that Pickle Boy is our old friend Nate (you know, the kid who put out a roommate wanted ad saying he was “the new night guy at Magic 93.1?”

So if he indeed has the KZMG night gig, and assuming my source is right — then it’s pretty clear he’s not coming to Magic for any sort of extended period. Also, why does this kid put his personal laundry all over the Internet? Seems like a hiring liability to me. Heck, I just stumbled upon his roommate.com ad — and I just happened to have a mouth piece. Who knows who else saw it. Now this guy’s written in to AllAccess with his personal situation

One last pondering: if Magic is making a night guy change, why now? KZMG just had one of their best books in a looong time. Sure, the KISS kids are putting some pressure on – but it seems that beefing up the night presence rather than dumping people would be the right idea.

Hmmm.

X hires new PD

Don Day | March 4, 2004

Eric Kristensen will soon join KQXR as its Program Director.

He comes to Bo-town from WPBZ.

While at WPGU in Illinois, Kristensen was written up by the local paper for his music downloading habit. This was well before the RIAA started cracking down (in fact, it was Feb. 26, 2000). This doesn’t mean a whole lot — but it’s one of those Google gems you just have to share.

EK is/was the MD at WPBZ – market 47. This is his first PD job.
