A looooong distance follow-up to Kevin, and YES, happily the Cruise is still playing those tunes (albeit with a couple of tune-ups in the format, although I miss the AC 80s a lot) and you may have noted some very BIG changes when you were there:

First of all, the 1957-ish Gates BC5E behemoth is GONE, as are the 19 (I counted) Pioneer 6 disc CD decks that replaced the 4 StuderReVox B77 reel machines and arcane if not mystic IGM Carousel cart machine (whooboy, to watch that thing spin)...all replaced by a computer system for music/syndicated programs (now tracking in sequence thank you) and a used but very nice Harris Gates Five 5 kW PDM analog output transmitter that would fit in a coat closet! And since the Gates family apparently first put them ON at 5 kW it seems fitting that the engineer chose the last family of Harris transmitters named after the Gates legend to completely revitalize the station, a commendable gesture!

You did notice that they now have enough room in there to have lunch?

It is always nice to hear someone else remark how they like their small town AM station so much : ) I just got here or I would've said so earlier.

Dr. Who hit it on the head. I am sometimes totally baffled at the Superiority Attitude a rather large chunk of the Boise Market emits simply because they are bigger than some other places in the State. If they only knew how Boise is looked down upon by Salt Lake, Portland and Seattle... The fact of the matter is this, and I realize the vast majority of the Boise jox will scoff at this, but too bad: They have NO better talent than any other market in the state. Sure, there are a few really talented jox in Boise, but the same can be said of Pocatello, I.F. and certainly about the Magic Valley. ALL markets have their good and bad air talent...and Boise has plenty of folks who downright suck, just like the rest of us -- maybe even more so. The Monstrous ego-centric Prima-Donna's that I have had the mis-fortune to deal with don't make me mad so much as I wonder what justifies that huge Conceit in the first place? It certainly ain't talent. Likewise, I know several in the Magic Valley who suck and yet have ego's the size of Texas...but you will find that everywhere you go. It all boils down to this: there are those who COULD and HAVE been in larger markets than Boise, but simply CHOOSE to live in smaller markets not because the pay is good, but because the communities are nice, it's cheaper to live there and being fired for having one lousy book is almost unheard of. It isn't a lack of ambition, but speaking for myself, I'm a parent who would rather raise my children in a safer area...and if that means my paycheck isn't as big, so be it. Some things are more important than the arrogant NEED some have to act better than others simply because they are on radio in Boise...

Oh yes.....how could I forget, only BOISE has any REAL talent. Silly me...

I used to live in Boise and the only difference between Boise talent and anywhere else is the pay check. The real top notch talent in the Magic Valley could hang with ANYONE in Boise. Seriously, get over yourselves......

I like the comment from "WHO" that says they would have seriously hurt Magic...yeah right. crappy signal...crappy try at a "booster" horrible jingles and medicore talent. Sorry guys...gotta get the music, talent and marketing right to take on the established stations. I remember them trying to hire scooter to do morings for 2K a month....HA HA HA HA. Try again.

Locally Owned also owns a kick ass classic rocker in Twin Falls (KIKX) and KTPZ, which would have seriously hurt Magic and KSAS if Horizon Broadcasting would have never happened. As an outsider looking in, Locally Owned is in posisition to really make some noise in the coming year. Good talent (see Howard on KTPZ, J.R on KIKX, Simmons on KISY) and the above mentioned deep pockets. Could be interesting at least in the Twin Falls market.

Now if they would only hire me!
