As the man who runs the cage match I can answer why we don't put local bands on (at least from what I've come to understand about previous incidents). There's a tendancy, because local music isn't really on the radio, for people to vote only for the song based on that principle. I'm not saying that's a bad thing. What I am saying, is that after a couple of weeks when a band keeps winning because they have their friends calling in to make sure they move onto the next night we have a hard time getting new music out there that people will pay attention to. At that point we could only put another local band on and see if they have more of a fan base to take the first one off (or maybe Tool would have a new song by then). In the long run it seems the whole principle of the cagematch (introducing new music to the Treasure Valley) is destroyed because somebody just wants more radio exposure.

Now, I'm not saying we shouldn't have local bands on the radio. I'm saying we shouldn't have them on the cage match for the above reason. I honestly believe we should have a place for them to go, and to my knowledge, we at the X will have that venue for these bands in the near future.
