More info on the new AM

Don Day | April 27, 2005

A source tells me that KDJQ 890AM will follow an oldies format. As we reported earlier the station will blast 50,000 watts from a tower near the prison.

I’m also told that an “open house” will be held soon. Anyone with further info, let me know.

Update: KDJQ is now in the list of stations on the right, with it’s own story archive.

I guess they are on the air. They were playing many “obscure” oldies (compared to the usual CC rotation found on their KOOL outlets). So far, it seems rather interesting and I think so far I prefer it to 104.3 and 107.1 as all of these songs are unfamiliar and therefore to this 33-year-old “new”. You can tell they are tweeking things because the volume goes up and down and some of the song transitions are a little on the rough side.

I was at their tower site when the engineer was installing it. It’s a old tube-based transmitter that the owner got from Canada from what I understand. I’d say the music’s age matches the age of the transmitter. :-)

Found it this morning and have really enjoyed these great old records! Lots of memories because I’m old enough to remember these songs. And no commercials (yet).

Very promising playlist – much better than the “same old same old” everywhere else. Haven’t heard these songs in years. I hope KDJQ is successful.

Incredible music! I’m telling everyone! Use to listen to Kool 104….but they play the same handfull of songs day after day. I actually turned them off a few months ago. Went out and bought CDs! Thanks to you guys, I don’t need anymore CDs!
Keep the advertising minimal, and the old music “old”!
