"Achievement is largely the product of steadily raising one's levels of aspiration and expectation"...Jack Nicklaus....

NBC's logo was changed in 1975 and brought back in 1979. Over the years, the logo and network image has been altered to the "Corporate and Crystal Clear" logo in 1998.

The point is they experimented and did something different...Only after trying something different did NBC go back to the peacock logo.

The Lakers traded Shaq because Jerry Buss picked Kobe as the next generation of basketball player. Shaq is older and he's knees are warn down, Kobe is the future. Plain and simple.

NYPD Blue is just like Walker Texas Ranger. Strong in syndication and on TNT and Court TV but strictly a re-run, old product. The Edge they had was 5 years ago?...5 Years ago....

Thanks for the clarification Dizzle.

I'm going to get caught up on some reading. Like NBC's 1975 book "We need to dump the peacock as our logo!" and the L.A. Lakers' 2004 book "Why we traded Shaquille O'Neill" or my personal favorite, David Caruso's "Who needs NYPD Blue!"

Happy reading everybody, and enjoy your weekend!

I'm not worried, My future is so bright...well you know the line...

And correct, I am male...CHR is not my format but I beleive I'm part of the top 3 that the sales people are told to pitch to clients?

The "magic" format in my head is proven strong in cities all over the west coast and select markets in the east. I don't have to sell it, it sells itself...If given full support by everyone involved...

I have respect for J-105 and what it has done in Boise's radio history.

Media hype doesn't say that Rock is dead. If anyone truly pays attention to all the hype, all analog terestrial broadcasts are slowly becoming the lowest common denominator in broadcasting meaning the person with least amount of income will be the only people listening or watching.

And that's why you slap those people, the listeners, in the mouth to upset them so much that they have to keep listening because they don't know what's going to happen next.

Does anyone remember that anymore?

J-105 hasn't ruffled anyone's feathers since someone stood out in front of Cassia with the grim reaper suit on. That was another stations press, not anything generated by J-105?

Denial of a problem only becomes bigger when other people are not the problem. The same old ideas or formula consistantly being used and becoming predictable is.

Being un-original is just not entertaining.

Don, I was put on this earth to do what I do.
Sometimes, I say things with such confidence people confuse that with bitterness or anger. I'm not either of those. I am just eager and ready to get back in the game and do something more than fetching a cup coffee for someone on the air during a break.

Because, I know, I'm better than that...

Dizzle,

You seem to be incredibly incredibly bitter. Your central point seems to be that KJOT is dead. You go on and on about how all it holds on to is tradition. You seem to think you have some magic format in your head that would bring the numbers up.

I doubt it.

This market has really only launched one new station in the past 5 years -- the KCID to KTHI flip. And it was a success. But that's the exception, not the rule.

But is something new... and risky like Jack a good idea? Only if you want the numbers to drive even lower.

All things are cyclical in this world -- and especially in this industry.

And Dizzle, just because media hype says Rock is Dead... doesn't mean it is. And I agree with dayweather -- you are not in the CHR demo.

Yes Cale...I like to eat too...Food and a paycheck is good but Turkey makes ya sleepy...

I remember replacing the automation system and getting a push (4.7 at night on Oldies) with the previous book and nearly having a fit. BJ was just happy that I didn't "kill the station" after he got off the air.

Tuning out in groves just is an example of the formats trend over time, say the last 3 years here in Boise. The Eagle, J-105 are damn near the same station.

Has J-105 had any ratings beyond a 4 or 5 share, in any daypart, since Spike and Bryan??

Has J-105's TSL expanded any since the departutre of Spike and Bryan??

Or does it just flux book to book??

So you got a push for 2 or 3 books?? No growth, just keeping the ship above water?

I personally just find CHR stations annoying and there in my demographic.

Oldies and CHR survive on TSL and promotions.

There's one format you might have missed in Seattle besides that Funky Monkey, once jockless, is now just another hits station like our Magic or Kiss.

The format in my thought process will pull the same J-105 demo. And quite possibly, more females...Oh and save the station money over time on operational costs.

I really don't see how the rocker J-105 has survived with all the audience fragmentation and similar target demographics Journal targets besides tradition and the nicely kept place in Mr. McColly's heart where the Old J-105/Q-104 format still lives.

Sometimes that's all some stations hold on too.

Tradition....

For about as long as I have been alive...

Hey Dizzle Fashizzle!

Unless Mr. McColly showed me the wrong set of numbers, I don't see our numbers "tuning out in droves."

The numbers I saw showed everybody doing pretty well, except for me. My numbers sucked a watermelon through the tailpipe of a Ford Escort.

Which, if I remember correctly in a different life, that's why Brad let me go at K-106, but alas, I digress.

I just don't think a "Jack" format will work any better in ratings than the numbers we have now. The River doesn't pull rip snorter type of numbers, and if memory serves me better, I thought Boise had a JACK station called KF-95 before it was called The River.

So, in the past 16 years I've been in radio, we had the Pirate Radio excursion, we watched the "Adult Top 40) realize it was actually a daypart, not a format, we've all watched the all 70s & all 80s formats die a painful death AND the last time I checked, the Funky Monkey format in Seattle blew Monkey Rocky Mountain Oysters!

And what continues to work? Yep, the classic rocks, the CHRs, the oldies; just the same old formats we've always had.

Is it how things should be? Probably not. But damned if on a day when life isn't so good, eating my comfort food of a hot open faced turkey sandwich with an extra scoop of mashed potatoes sure does sound good!

Whoever "The" may be, I hope he can understand my personal frustrations and anger when I, as a personally troubled 18 year old, working split board op shift in AM Drive, then jumping back on-air for a Night time shift on Oldies for another 4 hours Monday Thru Friday.

People couldn't understand why I was tired?

I was also working on the weekends and fill-in shifts, quite possibly working for "The" on his station at the time.

Split between 3 stations, Good Times!

So When I made the decision that I was done and so masterfully typed this in my resignation from Clear Channel, the last time out of the 3 times employed by the company, "He" didn't understand where I was coming from.

Karma coming back around full circle here, Maybe? I hope he understands the feeling of giving up something or getting something taken away from him that he put everything into.

I have quit in 2 different situations because of the same feeling he feels or was made to feel by "the powers that be"

The pressure and stress people put on each other in the corprate enviroment that are Boise's radio stations have become at some places unbearable to down right hostile.

FYI Tim...I have no problem being injected into this conversation cause I have been in everyone's radio ranch at one time or another and can read the place just by standing at the back door to know how the place works, the enviroment, ect, ect...

Journal has the best spot in town because they beleive in the local aspect of radio. They actually respect local personallities.

My opinion on J105 still remains the same. No disrespect to the work Chris, Doug and anyone else has done on that station but no one wants to let the old "Boise Classic Rock" station die and do something else, with the same demographic.

There's a format out there that this valley is dying for and no one has the stroke locally to pull it off.

Unless there name is....Dizzle

I'm sure one day I'll get canned! It's inevitable in radio, but I can tell you for certain that when that does happen...i'm not going to waste my time talking trash on a blog site...Instead I'll spend my time doing it better given another opportunity. I think at this point we have all had enough of THE, and it's not just the Jounnal people. If THE is indeed Chris it would make me very sad, at one point I really looked up to the guy, but making cracks at people on an internet site is about as immature as a person can get.

For the record. . . donsdad makes me David Day.

The- would like to defend you and your anonymity, but I went back and looked at your previous posts. Generally, you are as described above “hateful, vile and spiteful. Your style is very “talk radio. Could Chris Brewer be hiding behind yet another moniker? As for my experience, ask around.
