This article was excellent. It showed exactly why the Jack format is catching on among laymen. The bootom line is that DJ’s are simply getting too boring, or they’re all Stern wanna-bes.

Just stumbled on your site, searching for something else!

I live in Boise, travel frequently on business, and heard a “Jack” station in the Chapel Hill-Greensboro-Raleigh NC area not long ago. It was called “Simon” there.

It was pretty cool at first to hear such varied styles, but the randomness wore thin quickly. I like adventurous music in many styles from all eras, and too many of the songs on Jack’s beefed-up playlist just aren’t that good.

I like the River’s new idea of surveying listeners to create their playlists. I think that concept might stand a chance of blending the eclecticism of Jack with the consistent quality listeners crave.

The closest thing this valley is going to see to a “Jack-FM” is this weekend as we at the X do our Shuffle weekend. We’ll be playing everything in our system at “random” starting at five on Friday and not ending til Tuesday when the morning show returns. And yes, just like a Jack-FM, we won’t have any jocks on the air.

You’re asking too much from Jack if you expect a traffic report or weather check up, Dizzle. I suppose they run the required EAS and Amber activations, but that’s it.

Why??? This format is just a bucket of music?? What demographic does Jack target?

This format is just a cost-cutting measure, formatted for generic jocks and liners, perfect for the lemmings here in Boise.

Why does everyone want to go away from local broadcasters programming a station?

Has the audience gone that fragmented? And have the managers for these stations become so unattached to their listeners to put this format on the air?

I’d bet on CC to do it 1st, they need to cut the money. This format is almost as effortless as KHEZ was. Record 3 liners and a weather forecast and bang, I’m done for the hour.

If KSAS can’t get its act together with the new PD… I’d go that way. The River seems to be making advertisers happy… and The Monster’s owners are too clueless to try anything daring.

I have to admit I’m fascintated by this format, and who and when it will be in Boise. So I toss it out (as any talk radio person would), who do you think will be the station that gets jacked up? I’m betting on the Music Monster or The River.
