Yeah...I was in the middle of a contest when the Amber Alert came down. The only way it could've been worse is if the winner turned out to be the father or grandmother in question.

Yeah, holding them and trying to air them when you have 4 stations is pretty much not possible in my situation. We did air the alert on KTPZ/KISY several times, and I printed the info for all the jocks. Even if it was in Northern Idaho, we still run the Amber alerts whenever they are within the state since two of our stations are LP-1.

In this day and age, it's rare to even have anyone in the building when an alert comes down after 5 PM, forget weekends.

I've had them happen in the middle of a remote break before. They catch you off guard, but you have to learn to "roll" with it.

On KQXR it pretty obviously wasn't voluntary. It came in the middle of a song and when it ended Big J was just ending a break. Oh how sad Big J. He didn't even know. :)

So an Amber alert was issued for some kid up in North Idaho again this week. Even though it was the father and grandmother that took the kid, my theory is that there is an enclave of pedophiles living in the woods of North Idaho and Northwest Montana.

Quote CodeAmber.org...

"In April, 2003, President Bush signed the Amber Alert legislation making it a national program. While the Amber Alert system is now mandated across the country, some states are still trying to implement the procedures necessary in bringing the alerts to the public. Hampered by outdated Emergency Broadcast guidelines and different activation criteria in each state, the system needs a fair amount of fine-tuning to be optimally effective. Code Amber is on the cutting edge with the technology helping to make that a reality."

Quite simply here is that the EAS systems need an local upgrade in the Flash Rom program for the existing unit to receive and recognize an Amber Alert for our area...Just an update some stations might have not upgraded yet locally...

Quote www.ftp.fcc.gov...

"Once police officials have confirmed a missing child report, an alert is sent to radio stations, television stations, and cable companies. Broadcasters interrupt programming to relay the information using the EAS to voluntarily deliver the information to the community - the same concept used during severe weather or national emergencies."

Most stations want to get out the information in a timely manner...It doesn't mandate being done immediately so some broadcasters delay or wait for someone to go live on the air to air the alert...

Then there are some stations that have a full 15 minute delay on EAS alerts...It's just depends on how the stations internal unit is set-up...
