Deeds scoop

Don Day | September 30, 2005

OK, I’ll get off this subject soon, I promise… but Michael Deeds has a good scoop in the Scene today. KZMG is now playing KSAS’s so-called “exclusive” of the Mad Ro “Amp It Up” BSU anthem.

“Magic stole the song from Kiss!” Mad Ro rapper Chris “Arcturus” Jameson explains, sounding not very mad. “They downloaded it, they wiped off the Kiss FM tag, and they’re playing it all over their station now.”

That’s hilarious.

I agree. I’m having an odd flashback to 1998ish when KCIX got an Alanis Morrisette exclusive — and put annoying whispers all over it “K-106 exclusive” — and Magic wiped the whispers and ran the song. All is fair in love and radio.

MediaBase has Magic spinning Amp it Up 19 times a week, Kiss is actually playing it fewer times — 18 spins.

Oh Dear Lord, what an embarrassing time to be associated with the KCIX call letters.

Ed actually put a liner in the booth saying “if you hear any other radio station air “Thank You” that is :30 seconds shorter than the version we are playing, it’s a pirated copy of the song.”

The next wonderful step was to get an “exclusive” copy of Jewel’s “Hands” and shove the “K106 exclusive” whispers about 75 times through the song.

Great, now you’ve specifically spoken to that 10-15% of your audience who are die-hard Jewel fans, who are really wanting to hear this song, and you’ve pissed them off because THEY CAN’T HEAR THE SONG.

This is what happens when you let Ed & Brad Chambers run a radio station.

OK, It’s a local song…If it’s getting hot, spread the love to the other stations…Just because they had to rip it from somewhere shows there is interest in the song…

Altering of a song makes me change the station, period…Not Cool!

What’s even more funny, I can usually find a single song or entire monthly format updates usually sent to MD’s 1 week before airplay…product usually leaked by people inside the radio industry…but that is on a different scale…

After it’s aired once, it’s not exclusive anymore…

Cale…Did Mr.Chambers hurt your future earnings in life too?? He didn’t replace you with Ryan, did he?…

Oh dear god, I had almost forgotten that stoopid “exclusive” bit. Brilliant! Thanks to Don & Cale for stirring THAT one up again.

Brad Chambers is the devil. His hair only did a moderate job in covering his horns. Cale know exactly of what he speaks, and he was smart enough on his own to move on to bigger and better things NOT in radio. There is a special circle in hell for people who suck the joy out of other people’s lives. Chambers will have a ‘priviledged’ seat in there some day. Him and his little son Ryan too…(said in a squeaky wicked witch of the east voice)!

Most of the time, I was the person running some of those Vandal games on KIDO Pre-Chambers…After Brad came along, The Vandals on KIDO just became a joke…

The Ryan bit was great! I was in the building about 15 minutes after it happened and he was crying like a kid who just got his candy stolen..What a Idiot!

I must say in all honesty, there are very few times I care to personally watch something bad happen to somebody (watching a Yankees fan at last year’s ALCS, seeing Gary Lyman ripped apart by the judge, or watching an oil company executive set on fire not withstanding) but I am jealous Dizzle…Who? that you were there that night and I was not. Ah, seeing Ryan sobbing & watching Brad try to use his charm on the Secret freakin’ Service, telling them he’ll call them in the morning. Please tell me you popped some popcorn & shouted “encore!” when it was all over!

    It was great!…

Brad, standing inside the old glass doors at the front desk of the radio station at the Owyhee Plaza hotel on a cellphone talking to 3 guys in suits right outside the door…looking at them and talking on the phone thru the glass…

    Good Stuff!

dizzle…did you run any of the Vandals while Brad was there?

There was someone that I called at the station to give me the “network” time so I knew when to start the countdown…we did NOT have a clock in the Kibbie Dome for the “exact” start time.

I used my casio or timex and hoped it still was correct from when I left the mighty KQQQ building to head over to the Kibbie….

There were a few times that it was not…and i has stations saying they had “timed out” their programming to hit at the start time…but I was like 1:22 off or something.

We did get KIDO in the pocketbook…Brad would piss and moan about a single line telephone feed so we got a THREE line extender and they paid for 5 hour of Bob Curtis on THREE lines to sound “a bit” better!! ha ha…hell I did not care..

Yes, I ran most, if not all, the Vandal games for about the 1st 6 months of Brad’s tenure…Before Brad, El Guapo and Goofy Jim and I, handled the Vandals on KIDO…

I do remember the “ISDN/Combined” telephone line set-up at KIDO…I couldn’t tell the difference since the actual studio signal to the transmitter has less bandwidth used than that phone line…

I only think that worked out for a couple of months…At the end, I was running a “dirty” feed…Someone else’s air signal…a super pain in the butt for an audio operator…

Football and Baseball games are what I miss doing the most…

That Dirty feed came in my 2nd year as the “engineer” for the Vandals games…that was done because we could not get a decent board op in pullman to run the ads properly…!!!

So we sent our local ads to EVERYONE…well…there was another reason…SPOKANE. They did not want to pay a board op up there…so we ran thir ads too…since the pullmnan spots were not sold out.

While you hacks bitch about “the old days”, I seem to remember the numbers on KCIX went UP for a time, no thanks to the whiners and babys there (Cale, Tom, etc.). Looking back (no, you wouldn’t know me), it’s amazing Cale lasted as long as he did, being the consumate crybaby and uber-non-team player. There’s a reason he was fired, folks, but feel free to listen to his BS anyway. Those who “got” what was trying to be done truly did “get it”…those who didn’t were, deservedly, shown the door. When you strive for the “next level”, you’ll find two people: those who will climb the ladder to it, and those who are afraid of heights, and people like Cale will always be afraid of heights. ‘Nuff said.

Fascinating chime in Cartman. Too bad you can’t even back up a single thing you said with facts.

First, Tom is not, and never has been, a whiner or a baby. It’s obvious you don’t know Tom, or you would never EVER drag his name into this.
Second, I wasn’t fired. I quit the sinking ship. I was demoted to overnights, and I refused to take the position, so I quit.

Now, let’s look at those who “got” what was trying to be done who truly did “get it.”

Steve & Steff – Yea, GONE!
Melissa – not at 106 anymore. In fact, she was fired by the Brad regime along with Mark Waldi. Fortunately, she survived being Chambered & stuck around.
Ed (Mr. Ed – Franklin Cole) – GONE! He got so tired of Brad he quit. Yea, I guess he got it too.
Shannon – yea, he quit too.
And where did 106 end up? Yup, going from trying to be Magic 93.2 into Mix 106.
But I guess what the facts show isn’t relevant to you, is it Cartman?

Now, if you care to mention the facts that the person who instituted these changes felt up the bosses wife IN FRONT OF HIM, or tried to smooth talk the Secret Service, now those are nice facts you failed to mention.

Come tall or don’t come at all Cartman. Just change your kneepads while you’re still slurping Mr. Chambers, and keep forgetting the facts buddy. You just do what you do best pal.

People who hide behind psuedonymns in order to call someone out are cowards. If you stand behind your statement, then use your real name. Seriously.

I’ve worked with Cale for most of the last 7 years — the phrase “consummate crybaby and uber-non-team player” is completely out of whack with reality. Neither of those two descriptions bears any parallel to reality. And I echo Cale’s statement — if you know Tommy, you wouldn’t say those things.

I value free speech here — that’s why I didn’t nuke your comment, otherwise your unfair tirade would have disappeared.
