What praytell are we to all think... perhaps there is life on the radio for those who prefer to use the radio media as a means to inform and stimulate... instead of just as background noise... I propose that NPR has just reinforced the fact that its programming is very valued by its niche demographics. Kind of like "must see TV' Verse Cable/Dish's History Channel etc. Those with higher end incomes and higher levels of educational obtainment are loyal and have the buying power and dont always watch the mindless dribble-crap that is sold to us on the big networks. Now NPR has a means to quantify and guage its up until now, silent listernership....that which is always missed by the rating book. "oh, those folks, they never buy anything anyway... they are all just stuffy intellectuals..."Maybe all stations will be able to do likewise and this information could be used to supplement advertising sales and the rating books.... and we know how much accuracy there is with the dying biased ratings industry.....Food for thought for anyone who wants to start generating listener loyalty for programmers who create their own shows...like local newstalk, etc.... take what is being done on the internet and learn to use it on the broadcast bands......That is unless you want to be lost in the dust with all the rest of the bunch of cloned sound-a-like, stuffy liner based, boring, formats (ie: ClearChannel and other Big Box Radio Outlets)...BOOSTERS.
