Cool information. Also, the ratings service have a set of rules too... forgive me if not exactly right as its been years since I saw a set, but... I think if two or more stations are using the same hook...."My Country--Sleezy Country" for example....then the ratings will be split equally...or something like that... but someone in the know might want to let us all know how that works for sure....

Sec. 73.3550

(h) Stations in different broadcast services (or operating jointly in the 535-1605 kHz band and in the 1605-1705 kHz band) which are under common control may request that their call signs be conformed by the assignment of the same basic call sign if that call sign is not being used by a non-commonly owned station. For the purposes of this paragraph, 50% or greater common ownership shall constitute a prima facie showing of common control.

(m) Where a requested call sign, without the ``-FM,' ``-TV,'' ``-CA'' or ``LP'' suffix, would conform to the call sign of any other non-commonly owned station(s) operating in a different service, an applicant utilizing the on-line reservation and authorization system will be required to certify that consent to use the secondary call sign has been obtained from the holder of the primary call sign.

I could be wrong, but I think you can have two (possibly more) stations with the same calls in two different markets so long as they are all owned by the same company. I know that there is (or was) a station somewhere in the South that has or had the same call letters as a co-owned station in Pennsylvania. That would explain the KISS thing.

Sounds about right to me as well... the FCC did some changes to call letter assignments a few years back to relieve some of the congestion and demands for the limited number of four letter calls signs... TV stations also can play this game as well.... Correct me if I am wrong...always like to learn stuff...

Yes they can as long as they have the permission of the AM call letters owner OR they purchase those letters from the AM owner. If they merely seek permission then CC would actually have to go with KMYC-FM as their "official" call letters which would then likely be heard ONLY at the top of the hour IDs. That's "my" understanding!
