Ummm Booster...
You sound bitter over something totally in your control. If you want people to letter in Chess, or Debate, start a fund for them. The Throngs of people dying to go to a live Chess Mattch are amazing.
To sit and knock people who were using their own time for a cause they thought was appropriate is really quite refreshing. Maybe you could use some fund raising to pay your psychiatrist bill to find out why you come to a website to rant about your shortcomings on the athletic field. Or to get your Prozac Prescription refilled.
The Dollars Generated at the Gate is the main reason Colleges support Sports. Since you brought it up, exactly what is the TAX Dollar amount used to fund College Athletics?

Well, now the important thing here is that all of in the classroom of life are still talking... I am fond of the saying...The A students work for the C students.... "Hey, Billy Bob, former high school football star, it must be 30+ years since we last saw each other... so how's that minimum wage job treating you now... looks like its been good for you judging from that extensive beer gut of yours...."

Boy, there was NO predicting that someone would say THAT, huh, especially given that I left it wide open. Three cheers for predictability!

Well, speaking for the egghead crew, and someone who lettered for three years in Debate and Speech (and is still damn proud of it), I'd say right now you're an asshole.

Well, maybe if someone comes up with an "all chess, all the time" radio format, people will start supporting non-sports school activities. Or I'm just an asshole. Pick one.

Thanks for your support... Just for the record and full disclosure I do have a Varsity high school letter in .... FOOTBALL PHOTOGRAPHY...
I never did have the balls to get a chenele lettermans jacket....but by God I could have.. and probably should have...just to make my point back then. I just get so sick and tired of seeing kids lose out because they cant, run, jump or whatever...and then there are those adults who wont fork over money to sponsor something non-traditinal like a chess tournament, etc but will support the sports boosters club ...DUH, .. just food for thought....

You make a good point, Boosters. I think sports get a disproportionate amount of money as compared to things like debate clubs, chess clubs and the like. Are athletes automatically more deserving of financial support than kids who have other skills?

Not sure of the details and maybe it was for really deserving needy students, but don't my tax dollars go to subsidize enough schooling for athletes at the cost of progams like debate, speech, journalism, shop class, vo-ag etc... based ONLY on what I see and know here, I dont think many of us have much patience for more SPORTS... Bring on the gladiators into the arena....we need more bread and circus' the ignorant masses need more entertainment...
