I remember the KF95 “It’s coming” (thump, thump) “It’s coming” (thump, thump) incident. It scared the hell out of my little sister when I’d crank the old stereo full blast. It played all day. I can remember my class mates at MHS blasting it from their cars in the parking lot. No one knew what it meant. Thus, the marketing ploy. Of course, it was taken off the air the next day and replaced with something a bit less erie.

Jack... thanks for the info. Didn't you tell me about a vintage jukebox stored in the house that someone made off with? And I wonder what they found above the false ceiling in the studio and production room!

Nice catching up with you the other day!

Speaking of the Old KFXD Building... here's a memory from the summer of 1964 or 65. Mel Lowe was the nite jock playing top 40. When legal sundown hit he was required to switch to a directional pattern. However for some time the remote control relay on one of the tower bases was broken. So Mel would have to shut down the transmitter, hop out the back window, run out to the dog house at the base of the tower with with w wooden club, and bang the relay. Then run back in, hop in the window and power the xmtr back up. The golden days of AM Radio for sure.

No one knows the KF95 days better than I. The bomb shelter in the basement had original Sun Record recordings of Elvis and Roy Orbison. Led Zepplin's "in through the outdoor" albums in the brown paper bag covers ... all 6 different album covers. Very rare. Many, many, many rare and hard to find 45s and albums just thrown into the room.

As for the "Wall of Fame" ... it was thrown out by Taco Bell during remodel. It was offered to Clear Channel (owners of the building) but upper management didn't see the worth and value in it and simply threw it out. WOW! I think I've heard this story before!

For those of you who remember the KF95 days and the Amitty Horror house, you've got to drive by and look for yourself. Taco Bell has done a wonderful job of face lifting.

As for the huge KFXD neon tower sign, it's been restored and hanging at the top of the stairs on the second floor at Clear Channel. It's screwed to the wall pretty good ... I know, I tried to steal it on my way out!!!

I wonder what happened to all the JUNK in the house! I went out there a couple of times and there was tons of old busted equipment, tons of records (many still in the unopened mailers from the record companies), and a few stray cats. Speaking of old junk out there... right next to the house the big neon "KFXD" sign that was on the original building was laying on the ground, and there was also a small row boat out near the towers with KFXD on the sides. Dang, that property was almost a museum. I still have sitting on my desk one of those bricks from the original KFXD building that says "piece of the rock" on it.

That place really went to pot during the reign of Double D Broadcasting... nice to know someone fixed it up again.

It's been about a year I think. The old house is gone, it's all been landscaped and a new parking lot put in. Pretty fancy, actually.

Seems fitting if Taco Bell moved in there... they pretty much OWNED KF95 when Obenaff's were there sponsoring everything we ever did. But hey, we all got all the Taco Bell bucks we wanted. :)

The building has been totally remodeled. I would assume the wall is gone. It is now corporate headquarters for Taco Bell or Taco Time or one of those. However, I do have photos (not the greatest, but at least readable) that were taken about the time KFXJ moved out. It may take some time to find them, but I'll look. I saw them about a month ago when I was doing a different photo project.
