Neener neener, you’re a dope!
Don Day | April 28, 2006Seen that awful blog that has decided that it is Boise’s keeper? Filled with inaccurate information and self-promotion. And you think I’m bad :)
Lately it’s been handing out “dope awards” to TV reporters. These people do good, hard work — and for some reason that blog has decided to pick on them for doing their jobs. It’s really a bit much.
The blog has called them “kids,” “actors” and “the best looking migrant workers in Ameria” — and the folks who leave comments say much worse.
The blog says it was “born out of necessity” — apparantely the necessity to trash people.
(Note I’m not naming the blog or linking to it — go to Boise Weekly’s blog page for the link if you’re curious).
Funny how you get bent out of shape if they attack “TV” people. I mean, why not make fun of DJ’s that have been fired and now have to sell cars for a living.
What you got against the TV reporters? The GUARDIAN says they are the best lookingt migrant workers in town. You think they are UGLY or something?
I think if you read what I wrote — I didn’t make FUN at all. I pointed it out. I didn’t call him a dope, I didn’t slam him. When I wrote this post – I was aware that some would say I’m in a glass house, but frankly I don’t call names – and am overall very positive about people and the industry in general.
The difference between the GUARDIAN and Idaho Radio News is that we aren’t out to be nasty and put people down.
Personally, I am out to make people look bad. It helps me sleep at night.
Coming from a guy who makes himself, his station and his employer look bad every time he opens his mouth that means nothing.
I agree that it is cruel, not everyone has the $$$ to look like Los Angeles. I worked in Eastern Idaho, and most of our news people worked DAMN hard (not so much the techs, who were usually in high school – but that’s just b/c of the pay) to bring people newscasts, sometimes two on weekends.
It wasn’t easy with about 4 staffers.
hey, “x sucks”, ian was just being his normal sardonic-silly-self for a laff. don’t start attacking. sit, heel, stay….good boy….
Okay… I’ve bit my lip all week wanting to chime in here but I haven’t, trying to maintain the spirit of “kindness” that you so admirably encourage Don. I just can’t hold any longer. I know you are protective of those in your field but let’s face the facts… You happen to work for the only QUALITY local television outlet in the market. KTVB is not the very best that I’ve seen but they could hold their own in most medium and even some of the smaller major markets in the country. As for the other stations in Boise / Nampa, they are an embarrassment to the progressive nature of the Treasure Valley. The apparent affinity for fresh young faces (right out of broadcast school) has overwhelmed the airways. The true veteran communicators are gone! Weak attempts at ratings grabs to cover the “hard†story have left me laughing that these “journalists” take themselves so seriously! Many stories that are factually WRONG but no one seems to care even when it’s pointed out. They hit the air anyway and the damage is done and never a correction. I’m sorry but that’s TABLOID Journalism…Not NEWS. (Don, I’ve called you newsroom a couple of times with facts corrections and the staff was professional but the corrections were not aired) I reminisce for the good old days when channel 6 had Judd, Jennifer and Jim; all capable and relatable communicators. Then came the advent of the morning “readerâ€, stabbing at words for emphasis and so mindless that they’ll read anything that comes up on the prompter before them. A technical malfunction leaves them stumbling and bumbling. I do enjoy the way that professionals like Carolyn, Mark, Dee or Larry are able to save themselves gracefully when there is a malfunction. The vapid movie reviewer on KIVI seems to have the most natural talent and delivery at the station yet he whores himself out to an advertiser apparently believing that he must be a good actor because, “if those idiots can do it in the movies then I can to!†It was so painful to watch them that the transition back to KTVB in the mornings was easy. And what can you say about the mediocrities of the other news stations? Channel Two’s overhaul must not be finished. It can’t be! It appears that Steve is even playing DOWN to his co-anchors. We all know that he is better than we are seeing now. And Channel 11… Take 9’s direction and NO NEWS…Please! You seem to think that people are going to buy into the low budget format… It’s 2006! Get it! I saw a piece on MSN that reminded me of some of the folks I’ve seem come through the local stations in recent years. Enjoy. http://www.ifilm.com/ifilmdetail/2671152
Ms. Bilbao is a dreamy one…maybe not as hot as Gretchen Anderson. An A ticket though.
