Something else being snuck in under the radar by EMF:

Another CP has been issued to EMF to relocate 89.1 FM to 99.9 FM. That would boost thier power from 10 Watts to 250 Watts. Their pattern would be directional of course, but I still wonder if there is potential for interference for other 99.9 class C's in the Twin Falls area, and La Grande OR. Probably, but oh well.

What EMF doesn't realize is 99.9 upside down looks like 666. Cute.

Thanks, boise engineer for addtional info. I was getting concerned that there were no more frequencies available for more religious translators. Not to worry! I see those CP's for 93.5 and 97.3. The FCC doesn't mind cramming 'em in there! After all, we don't want anyone left out. How long will it be before the FCC opens up first-adjacent-to-class-C channels to these guys? Then everyone can join the translator party! At least if they are Christian.

I don't exactly know for sure where the 98.7 tower is, but I believe it is actually on the ridge just to the west of Hwy. 95 south of Marsing. Nyssa was obviously never the intended market, just a convenient town to assign a Boise wannabe rimshot to. Back when it was still used as a commercial station (and it belonged to Steve Sumner), it's Studio was in Caldwell. Now that EMF owns it, it has a tranlator assigned to it in Sedalia MO. That makes sense.

Is it REALLY in Nyssa?

WHERE? I've only seen two, three CELLPHONE towers between Gem Avenue and the border. Did they hide it on the hill with the Parma airstrip somewhere near where Stringer Bros. used to graze sheep? I used to find a lot of nickel cans there before they cracked down on drinking at the dock...

Yes, Air 1 folks worship too much peyote or something. Please explain physics and public interest to them soon.

I just happened to read the comment about the religious translators in the tri-cities area. It seems hardly possible that there could be many more of the "Jesuscasters" there, than here. It is no wonder that we have to shuffle frequencies around to free up new channels, with how badly our FM spectrum has been choked up by the "wholesome goodness" of religious broadcasters.

Count 'em from bottom to top: 88.1, 88.3, 88.7, 89.1, 89.5(at least it's local), (89.9 Mtn Home area), 90.9, 94.1(at least locally owned), 95.7, 98.7, (101.3 Mtn. Home area), (102.3 Mtn. Home area), and 106.7.
How many did I miss? This is all I could think of. Obviously, not all of these are translators. Some are LP's and some are full power.

Speaking of full power...

Take a look at the wastefulness of the stations owned by the Educational Media Foundation. They own four stations in this market that are playing the exact same program material- Air1. Although they are each assigned to a different city of license, they all seem to be optimized to cover Boise. Take for example 90.9 KIDH. This station is licensed to Jordan Valley OR., but it's directional antenna is aimed right into Boise. With over 21.000 watts at over 2100 feet HAAT, that creates quite a signal in town. (What does that have to do with Jordan Valley, by the way?) 88.3 KARJ is licensed to Kuna with a similar site location, ERP, and pattern. 98.7 KARO is smack-dab in the middle of the commercial band at 100,000 Watts- same program material. I didn't think you could use such a signal as a translator. How can the FCC overlook this? Does the treasure valley really need 3 full powered stations and one LP boradcasting AIR1? No. Not really. But when it comes time to sell these full powered giants, EMF will be raking it in, won't they. That's gotta be the plan, I am sure.
