(Recycled headline) Jacent on the ascent

Don Day | May 6, 2006

Former KQXR PD Jacent Jackson is back in the program director chair – this time at Milwaukee’s WLUM. He hits the air on Monday May 15.

WLUM management has high hopes – nothing that Jackson’s hiring will help them build “one of the best alternative radio properties in the country.”

See more on WLUM at (deeeeeep breath:) milwaukeesalternativestation.com

(Thanks, Cale)

Ratings cure-all!

Don Day | May 5, 2006

This is just eye-rolling unbelievable: Former San Francisco powerhouse KRON-TV has been in the ratings toilet since it lost its affiliation with NBC about five years ago.

The station’s program director – clearly desperate – consulted an astrologer.

The reason the ratings suck? The station’s street address!

Sure. OK. Perfect. Apparently the number on the building was bad for business — or more specifically — downright EVIL.

So you will no longer find KRON 4 at 1001 Van Ness. Look up 1001552 Van Ness — and there you go! Of course… the station didn’t actually MOVE.

“Obviously, there are skeptics who think it’s a bunch of hooey, but I can tell you things seem to have improved since the change,” KRON programming honcho Pat Patton said.

One more note: I did a little checking, and when KRON was the number one station in the Bay Area, it resided at the same address.

Total Traffic

Don Day | May 4, 2006

As we first reported in March, Clear Channel has officially taken the traffic beat in-house.

Boise Traffic vet (and former Kool 104.3 morning host) Greg Williamson is doing the drops (at least in the AM). The traffic updates sound pretty much exactly as they did before when IdaWest Broadcast Services provided the content. They still include the traffic report plus an embedded sponsor billboard.

Citadel mulled doing the same thing last year, according to sources — but pulled back at the last minute.

It’s s….

Don Day | May 3, 2006

So.

Saying the phrase “it’s slow” on this blog invariably leads to bad things. It’s happened more than once. I’ll gripe about not having anything to post — then BAM!… something happens. And it usually involves someone taking a trip to the unemployment office.

So we’ll skip that — and instead say that there’s a “lack of news.”

As usual — if you have something to share, drop me a line at idahoradio@gmail.com
