Stone on a bus? You’ve got to be kidding. He
didn’t go. In fact, he wasn’t even with the
station for those promotions. (I could tell
lots of stories abou the Friday buses, but I’m
saving them to fund my retirement)

I went on that trip too! I believe Stone & Scheider rolled for the Friday show…I rolled for the Saturday show (3 buses for that one). I was on a bus with a bunch of twenty-somethings from Hailey/Sun Valley…whew, what a party that was!! On a stop in Winnemucca: 4 garbage bags of empties went off…and about 12 cases of beer went on the bus!

The Oakland shows were about 2 weeks after the big earthquake in ‘89. Bay Bridge was out(BART had some of its largest ever ridership the weekend of the shows…some of the elevated freeways that collapsed in Oakland were about 2 blocks from the host hotel…and of course, there was the SHOW!! Living Colour opened (“Cult of Personality”) and a fireworks show comparable to River Festival wrapped it up. Fond memories of that trip…still tell folks that I was able to see the Stones on the last “real” Rolling Stones tour (Bill Wyman stopped touring after “Steel Wheels”).

Oh…BTW: J105’s new PD/afternoon host is in place…everyone welcome Dave Sparks!!!

Fill a bus with rockers, make Carl Scheider and Dave Stone chaperones and call it â€œYou Rock we Roll.

J105 sent at least 4 buses to Oakland to see the Stones Steel Wheels tour at the coliseum. One of the best shows/promotions ever.
