When KSRV-FM initially applied for the move to Deer Point, KID-FM filed a comment since the omnidirectional pattern from Deer Point would infringe on KID's protected contour, primarily near Sun Valley. To answer your question Peabody, "who cares if they protect KID FM?", the obvious answer is the FCC, otherwise they wouldn't have gone through the trouble of installing a directional antenna as a condition of the construction permit.

Also as a side note to coverage near Weiser and Vale where it's not quite 100%, there are talks of a translator in the works...

Oh, and by the way who cares if they protect KID FM? Check it out- both 96.1s play country, call themselves "The Bull" and play Lia in the Evenings. Aside from the legal ID, listeners couldn't tell the difference between the two stations.

All I was sayin', was that KSRV's signal is now not really any better in the Western Treasure Valley than any other full power deer point signal. Thier power output is about 47kW ERP. That is about what everyone elses power output is, give or take a couple thousand watts.

The directional antenna just makes it so that far less power is radiated towards the East to protect stations in other markets. It doesn't mean that there is really any benefit for the Idaho Oregon border area.

There are areas where the KSRV signal isn't good as it was before, like East Payette, Nyssa and Vale OR. It doesn't have quite the punch on cheap radios or as much building penetration as it had before, even in the Fruitland-Ontario area where the Deer Point signal is pretty good. That's the tradeoff for having a signal that covers more of the valley (Boise).

BoiseEngineer - Correct, KSRV-FM is the only Class C station on Deer Point using a directional antenna as result of KID-FM's concerns of interference near Sun Valley. Class D stations K201EO on 88.1 and the Air1 affiliate K260AI on 99.9 also using directional antennas, but ultimately comparing a primary singal of a Class C station to a translator is that of apples and oranges.

KKGL's on the backup transmitter. They're waiting for parts. There's not much difference in coverage between the FM's from Deer Point. KSRV-FM's the only one with an "intentionally" directional antenna.

I'm sitting in my office right now on the northeast egde of Payette and the signal is fine. I listened all the way to Wesier and back earlier today, not a problem. And from my home in Fruitland there isn't a click or a hum... it sounds great. It was also nice to be in Boise last week hearing The Bull loud and clear...

As I said, it's still quite audible in Malheur County and is actually better than KKGL by far in a car.

And I'll keep saying it until Don accepts that having lived over here since 1978, I might not have strawberry preseves upstairs and leaves it alone.

The coverage of KSRV in the western treasure valley will not be nearly as good in some places as it was. For example: East Payette. Before the move, their radios were practically melting. Now, in the shadow of clay peak, the KSRV signal is almost non-existant.

In the past two decades KQXR, KWEI FM, KIOV, and now KSRV FM have all moved their signals away from that area to seek greener pastures. Now the Southern Oregon-Idaho border area only has 2 AMs and a few non-com FMs to call their own.

There was a time when KSRV FM billed quite well where it was. Oh well. Boise could use another country station. Or something.

High fives to you Dale! Way to get 'er done! Be careful though... we don't want you letting out the hidden secret of our great community over here on the real west side... Kudos to the bosses in TF too.
