Ooops…

Don Day | January 5, 2007

Paul J: “Zabransky faked the pass, left the ball on the ground, Ian Johnson picked up the ball…”

Left the ball on the ground? “The ball was on the ground, picked up and run in by Ian Johnson.”

About 30 seconds later (after the replay) — the “ball on the ground” reference was missing in a recap.

You can listen here.

The folks at Bronco Country are chiming in

(Props, however, to KBOI for putting the game audio online)

    Ladies and gentlemen,
Before we start making a big deal of Paul missing part of the most important play in Bronco football history, lets make sure of something. Did he see all of the play? From what I understand the broadcast booth was almost behind the endzone. He probably couldn’t see everything as we did on TV and thus the reason for the play being described the way he thought it was versus the way it actually happened. Like him or not, Paul doesn’t miss very many plays and I believe he wouldn’t have missed this one if the view was available. Go Bronco’s.

I saw it on TV and had to replay it several times to see what happened. Don’t blame Paul for missing that, announcers are not magic and often have limited visibilty along with a zillion ditractions in the booth. Damn! What a game that was!!!

In case we are not up to speed on this…. Turn down the volume on your TV and turn up the respective radio announcer who is covering the game (where applicable) then you can have eyes to see and ears to hear…. I always found that the dedicated radio station carrying the game had a heck of lot more insight into what is going on than did the “rent-a-team” from the TV network who happened to be doing the game that week. Paul you did a good job just the same.

The radio “booth” overlooked the opposite end zone, about 150 yards from the action. He did most of the game looking through binoculars.

same for me,codger. Z and Ian both faked so well that i was looking toward the receivers when all of a sudden, it was like:”hey, whos that running with the ball?…its Ian…holy crap!(ensuing screaming.)” i didn’t see the handoff behind the back until the replay, and i’m sure p.j. had the same difficulty. Zabransky and team sold it very well…perfectly, in fact. Espn picked as the play of the year. it still gives me goosebumps to watch it.

I downloaded the whole thing to my video ipod, and have it paused at that moment so I can watch it over and over and over… Nothin’ sweeter than showing it to my sister and other U of I grads! Crud, or to ANY other person who wasn’t a BSU fan before! Bwah ha ha ha…

Oops, I just admitted to having an ipod… but that’s a different thread.

I never fully comprehended what was going on when I played center in jr. high or I’d have completed that sack!

I don’t have an iPod so if you see it you are at my house with the eye of newt and Tesla coil and all my broken vintage radios and stereos I will someday “finish”…

    Hail Philco!

Daver … it’s not admitting you have an ipod, it’s admitting you actually know how to use it!!! Or do your daughters help you??? You need to get out of Portland and bring your family “home”. We miss you!

Actually, I’ve got the hang of using the ipod, but I depend on my 13 year old to show me how to change the screen shots on my cell phone!

Oh, and thanks for blowing my cover. NOW EVERYONE KNOWS my real name is Daver!

What’s all this about Paul J? How’bout; JEFF CAVES in the background screaming like a Brownie Scout, after being told “Daddy just brought home a pony”.
