At least NPR isn't trying to take over the world 10 watts at a time.

Anyways...

Unfortunately, Daisy, a cool mil ain't what it used to be. Nowadays, that would probably only get you a 43 watt AM station in Homedale. Then, you could rock out in Spanish. Keep on tryin' the lottery though. Of course, you could've started your own church and got a license for free, assuming there were any open frequencies left in the aftermath of EMF and Calvary Chapel. Oh well.

Just a bit of a correction, it's just non-profit, non-com stations that can own them. NPR is a good example.

Dave, could you come check out my room? I need help. We could do our own Design on a Dime.

Sorry Daisy, not fair, but you can't own translators.... only religious broadcasters can own their own translators.....not exactly fair, but when has the government ever been fair.

It would be really cool (as I'm sure every radio geek on this site may be thinking) to snag ourselves a nice signal, slap a stick in the ground and ROCK IT LIKE NO OTHER BABY!! Um, ok I'm going to go read.

How much do you think it would cost to get a station up and running? A cool mil?

Yes, KBXL/KSPD is locally owned by KSPD Inc., headed up my Lee Schafer. He also has KDZY in McCall which used to rebroadcast KBXL. He's since flipped it to Country, and made it more local for the McCall area. See http://kdzy.tripod.com/ and www.myfamilyradio.com

Oh, and we just put new drapes in the family room. They go well with the carpet and lamps. I like color combination. Okay, I gotta get back to HGTV now.

Daisy, only one of the EMF stations is 100,000 watts (98.7). The other two full powers (88.3, 90.9) are at about 20,000 watts directional. This is due to the higher elevation of their transmitter site. Their lowest power station is on deer point (99.9), with about 250 watts directional- which covers Boise quite well. Also I saw on Radio-Locator that EMF was granted another Deer Point construction permit for another LP10 (10 watt) station on 97.3. That would make 5 Air1s. Oh, the joy of it all.

Some of the other religious translators in the area (88.7, 95.7, and 106.7) are owned by Calvary Chapel of Twin Falls and (88.1) Pennsacola Christian college. Calvary Chapel also has tranlators on 102.5 in Fruitland, 101.3, and 102.3 in Mountain Home. KBXL 94.1 is owned by KSPD Inc., which as far as I know, is local.
