Oh my gawd......radio is dead! how can we compete with a huge monopoly like this.....oh, ah, er, I guess a lot of you predicted that radio would die 2 years ago, when satallite kicked off. Come on, you know who you are.

Don't worry about Howard......he'll get his money, the companies are combining not going out of business, as many lawyers were involved in the process there is no way out of paying him off. Especially since he keeps getting bonuses for doing a good job. He just made another 5 million in bonus money.

I'd personally like to see Howard end up pulling an "Opie & Anthony" only to do a 3 or 4 hour show on XM/Sirius then crossover back to a syndication deal with a edited version of the show. O&A have a similar deal with CBS Radio.

Let's also not forget this has to clear the Federal Trade Commission and the FCC before they can declare a "done deal."

That probably won't happen until the end of the year.

I would hate to see this deal nixed because of the possible monopoly created.

If my memory serves me correctly, didn't one of the services just launch more broadcast satellites recently to "improve coverage"???

Dizzle, good question, I too wondered what happens to all the hardware out there.

Should also be interesting to see how Clear Channel exercises its stock holdings to beef up its revenue streams.

I dont really care what happens to Stern and his millions, but part of the reason that he was pulled to SatRadio was to entice more folks to brand A verse brand b...as well a not too amused FCC, so it will be interesting to see what happens with the king of shock.

They have SEVENTEEN million subscribers combined... That's $170,000,000.00 in monthly subscriber fees alone... MINIMUM! Then add in ad revenues, non-traditional, hardware royalties, etc... One of my best friends helped Brad Chambers with the launch of XM right after Brad was "let go" (wink). Word is that both companies are very strong... only to be stronger. Satellite radio is doin' berry, berry good!

"RadioActive Says

Anyone hear what effect this will have on Howard Stern and his positioning to SatRadio? Wonder if they will honor the contract and the astronomical pay that comes with it…."

What does Howard really have to care about??

He just made a boatload of money with the stock options he just picked up last financial quarter. The stock of both companies has been up around 10 percent since the announcement of the merger.

Either way, Howard is getting PAID. More than likely, He will end up on both services.

Programming decisions will be the LAST thing a combined company will think about. They already have their collective "ducks in a row."

What I want to know is are they going to combine efforts and offer both services with the existing satellite bandwidth or is a brand new roll-out of equipment going to follow the merger??

I was told about 5 years ago that each would have to have at least 4 million customers by 2005 to survive, and as far as I know neither did it. Some news station last night said they had a "total of 7 million" which I think is funny since doesn't Sirius claim more than 10 million? I know someone who subscribed and then cancelled after a month but it still worked for a year, because they wanted to still count him as a customer even if they weren't getting his money.
