Kiss it goodbye

Don Day | March 23, 2007

Well, so much for me trying to keep a lid on all the rumors. This from Michael Deeds:

In other radio news, er, unsubstantiated gossip, rumors are circulating that “103.3 Kiss FM” is going to flip formats. That station is one of six in the Treasure Valley recently purchased by Peak Broadcasting.

More: Clear Channel employees were told during meetings this week that Peak CEO Todd Lawley could not comment on the matter. Which clearly isn’t “no, we’re not changing it.” Lawley made several allusions to that format flip flopping. All the chatter points to Jack FM – but that’s “unsubstantiated gossip” as Deeds would say.

Also: Expect to see My Country staty country — but just about everything else will change for the station. It will get a local morning show, and live talent in other day parts.

KXLT will likely step off and give Mix a little bit more breathing room — rearranging the playlists so they aren’t so similar.

Plus — will a battle for the radio rights to BSU athletics break out? Bank on it. And as Clear Channel employees know… I’ve asked for official comment.

Again, Peak Broadcasting takes over Sunday April 1.

Could we actually see, just perhaps the rebirth of more local radio…..God help us all, as we would sure like to think this is an opportunity for it to happen…

Like I kept saying, Peak doesn’t believe in the CHR format. (Remember what they did to Fresno’s Y101?) As soon as I heard that Peak was buying the CC cluster, I knew that it was over for 103-3 Kiss FM. “Jack FM” seems like the most likely format for 103.3.

Like it has local jocks right now…. It might be a nice change having it be local… although it might not happen. Looks like things are getting very interesting!!

I don’t know about you guys but this could be a good stunt for Peak.

Flipping a format ON April Fool’s Day??

Does anyone else see the irony in the possibility Peak might flip a station on April 1st??

But what if they really fool you by NOT flipping on the first? Huh?

Peabody, I already know that you knew about what’s happening. So you know what I know and I know what you know.

    You know?

Yes, YES! I get it! This whole scenario is a conspiracy to just trick me then brainwash me with subliminal messages and make me listen to the music on KISS while I wait for “the change” to happen.

I’m just going to end up wearing a tin foil hat…AGAIN…to block out the “bad radio waves”…

I think next prediction, I’m just going to flip a coin and say “Magic OR KISS? Heads or Tails?”

For future reference, The Jedi Mind Trick DOESN’T work in on-line message boards.

I’m down for a good conspiracy. If for no reason other than seeing you with tinfoil on your head, Dizzle. When conspiracy comes along, I’ll let you know. Until then, I’ll let you get back to your Star Wars action figures. May the force be with you.

    Something like that.

Isn’t Byl Carrico due to kick some jack ass again?

I’ve always thought Byl and Doug needed a 3rd guy who does a ton of character voices, some really nice production work and could help produce the show.

Kind of a helpful third-party to buffer and help out everyone involved.

Peabody, the only reason I have to wear the tinfoil hat is because I like to shave my head. Haircuts cost money! I reflect the radio waves AND the those harmful sun rays. Plus, I have to save money on shampoo so I can score that case of Top Ramen noodles.

    I’m a big boy, I gotta eat! :)

Byl and Doug had that 3rd guy once…

We need to track down former JBG prod guy, Rob Buttery, and re-assemble the old-school Byl and Doug show. Heck, you could probably bribe him to come back to Boise by simply providing him a lifetime supply of Golden Corral Buffet gift certificates. Then they could start a new station called My Ass FM. (Remember that bit?) If they could do it, I would listen to My Ass. You probably would too.

As you already know, I usually just talk out My Ass, so I would have little use for such a radio station.

In a way, YES, I’m sad to see KISS GO!

I will go out and compare KISS with any of the stations playing the same format and using a similar style in larger metropolitan areas like a Phoenix, Seattle or Las Vegas.

The sound of the station with the targeted listening audience was “on-point”.

The lack of LOCAL air talent and direct interaction with the listeners is/will be the downfall of this station.

In my opinion, this goes back to the local Vs. voice track debate. The target demo for KISS can smell a package of garbage a mile away. When they can’t interact with the guy on the air, playing the music, to that audience, it smells like garbage.

Now a moment from the Clear Channel sales department…

The community simply cannot support this type station. The sales support is minimal. The costs generated just to get the attention of the listeners costs too much. The concerts drawn and promoted by the station never draws a loyal, consistent crowd of listeners from the station.

We can’t sell this product. End of Story.

    It’s sad, indeed…
