We the Hurricanes at the last H bowl, and this is what their hometown sports writer had to say about coming to Boise:

http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/columnists/sfl-mikeb24nov24,0,7386340.column?coll=sfla-sports-col

Add "roady's truck stops" to the mix and I'm sure that would have been in the article too.

To those people who are saying they've never heard anyone say anyting bad about Idaho or take a jab about toothless hicks, I say you're living in denial. I love this state but I'm not putting my head in the sand when it comes to realizing what people think we're doing up here. Or at least what they joke about us doing up here.

Wrabbitt, I have traveled extensively all over N America and have yet to hear of one single complaint about Idaho. Without exception all comments heard are "What a beautiful State, friendly people, would love to live there, I know several people who have moved there...". Some people see the cup as half full, maybe that's you Wrabbitt. Idaho is not perfect, but after living in the North, South, East, Midwest and West, Idaho is THE best place to call home.

Truck stops...I have spent my career working among truckers and have spend thousand of hours traveling the roads that lead into truckstops. They are doing a better job of catering to car traffic - more profit in cars on a per gallon basis.

Roady's may not be well known in Idaho, but they run profitable businesses in 31 states. Must see some importance to buy in Idaho. Idaho is growing up and people/businesses are noticing our growing opportunities. If they have the jingle to buy H-Bowl, let it be.

If you wish to vacate to a less "criticized Sate" may I suggest Wyoming? It just blows there...

Wrabbit, you do need to run in a better crowd. I don't think I have EVER been asked about potatos, or Nazis, or toothless backwoods whatever you said, and I proudly let people know where I'm from. Maybe you portray an image that invites those responses .....

I personally don't see an image issue with the Roady Humanitarian Bowl. If you do, you can stay home. In fact, why don't you just go home and quit being such a negative influence all the time.

I don't drive a big rig, and I do stop at truck stops. They have good food, good coffee, and are usually more friendly than some of the other places on the road. And I know of lot of other people that do the same. And, from the sounds of it, I'm not likely to find you there. Another plus.

Wrabbit, it's too bad the folks you associate with in business are just as back-woods as you claim they think WE are. I'll be the first to admit I am not the biggest world traveller out there, but I can't recall the last person I talked with from out-of-state who thought we were mostly a state full of inbred mountain folk who all worshipped Hitler. Personally, for those who think that way, it truly IS their loss. Idaho has done PLENTY to upgrade how others view us, but some things never change. The kinds of people who have nothing else to do but sit around and judge others will almost ALWAYS feel the same about Idaho, and unfortunately there is very little we can do about it. I say we begin to cater to those who have a more open mind about learning about Idaho people and values...and so far as I can see, it seems to be working pretty well. Not to everyone mind you, but those who just don't 'Get It' aren't going to 'Get It' anytime soon anyway.

Yum.

My point on this is that a truck stop is limited to certain clientèle that many people out there driving non "big rigs" really dislike. Trucks.

Truck stops are just that, TRUCK stops. If you drive a CAR and stop at a TRUCK stop, read the signs. Your not very welcome there. It's like a secret club. Unless you have a "big rig" expect to be treated like crap and have no access to anything but the crappy bathroom in the back for the ogre.

The other point is image. I believe in a good image. The Roady's Truck Stop Bowl does not help our. People outside this state still seem to think Idaho is full of Nazis and toothless stupid backwoods gun toting hicks. I for one would like to visit another state and not have people wondering if I have all my teeth and a dead critter over my shoulder fer dinna. Understand my point yet? I actually do like it here, but my point was lost. I would just like to say "I'm from Idaho" without having to explain that I don't farm spuds, date my cousins or have a swastika tattoo. The better our image, the more people are willing to spend money with us, more money comes in from the outside helping people in Idaho do well. I do much of my own business from outside the state, and I'm tired of explaining the fact we are really a big bunch of nice people, not hicks and Nazis. We have a seriously damaged image and it's hard to do business when you have to explain that we have schools and flush toilets.

Kevin, what you just said is a far cry from what I responded to from Wrabbitt. Wrabbitt insulted everything from Idaho to my intelligence. Your response is reasonable and I never said keep your mouth shut... just don't be mean or hurtful... Wrabbit has Wrubbed me the wrong way a couple of times... I don't get mad and I don't get bulging veins but I do speak my mind in defense of what I believe to be right... Big Jack gave me a hard time the last time I responded like I did... "did someone pee in your cheerios?" Jack's my friend and he knows I'd never eat anything as healthy as Cheerios... I get troubled by people who are so narrow minded that their heads would fit in the coin slot on a Coke machine. I'll say it again, Roady's is going to be a great thing for this state... every one of us will reap the financial rewards from contributions to the tax base to economic multipliers from the dollars coming into Idaho and staying here... But, that's just my opinion. I know, I have that and one other thing that no one wants to hear about.

It's threads like this that keep some of us quiet. I love the way the internet is growing into this "if you don't like it, shut your mouth" arena, rather than the open forum it should be.

Frankly I don't like the way the new name rings either and I'd hate to see the comments it'll be getting in the press from states far and away.

I guess maybe I shouldn't say things like that though because it might make Jim mad though.

Roady's Humanitarian Bowl works for me.
Back when I was a kid we'd come into Boise from the east...past the dead wrabbits on the highway...and we always fueled up at the Stage Stop. That was back in the early 60s. Boise was much smaller then, but Idaho was much bigger. And everyone saw the value in a good truck-stop.
