There must be more than one major newspaper there in Milwaukee. Milwaukee (market #33) is bigger than Boise (market #121).

Market numbers I found were from 2001, but I’m sure Milwaukee is still bigger, has a little bit more media. The rules are dictated by market and such irc.

Yes Virginia, there are cities bigger than Boise.

Then what’s the deal in Milwaukee? The Journal-Sentinel paper, WTMJ-TV, WTMJ-AM & WKTI-FM. Oh…that’s right, it’s “grandfathered” in or something like that….

More seriously, cross-ownership rules prevent any company from owning that much media in one market.

Does anyone close to the company know if this move is based on the overall decline in newspaper readership and circulation or is it a market specific sale? Maybe they throw a few million into idaho and purchase the Statesman… and do a better job than the current owner and editor/publisher…. oh, happy day.
