I've listened to Don & Mike for a while now. I think they "Jumped The Shark" quite a while ago.

...In my best Homer Simpson voice..."BORING!"

I'd prefer to hear Opie & Anthony in the 10a-1p time slot over Fox Sports Radio. I really dislike missing the first 2 LIVE hours of The Tom Leykis Show.

If you're going to carry the show, why not carry the replay hours?? Is Tom's time slot 5p-9p or 6p-10p??

Got to get in on the Don & Mike discussion! Forgive the long post.

Adding Don & Mike is a very smart move on Dave Tester's part in my opinion, but I am biased. I LIKE Don & Mike! I do agree with Ray, this is a toned-down version of the show due to the new FCC rules in the "post wardrobe malfunction" era. They have to do that to keep the FCC off their back and not get CBS and all the affilliate staions fined.

As media buyer for Zamzows, I was buying spots on KFXD-AM for a nomiminal rate as a bonus for buying time on the FM which was then KF-95. I had never heard of Don & Mike. As the story goes, KFXD AM/FM manager Rick Weight and Sales Manager Scott Ruelas (aka "Scooter") were TOLD by owner Alex Krisik to replace a conservative talk show on KFXD-AM with Don & Mike LIVE from 1-5 PM daily.

I first got wind of the change to Don & Mike when an angry customer called saying Zamzows was running ads on a station that was making fun of Dean Martin - who was dead. The listener thought it really was Dean Martin, who was drunk on the air, and that the station was airing some old recording just to make him look bad. It was not Dean - it was really Mike O'Meara doing a dead-on imimitation of him with Don talking to him on the "hotline to heaven" right after Dean had died. As the bit goes, Don calls up to heaven, Dean answers, and is drunk after being up there just one hour. Since he's dead, Dean is now free to tell us just what he thinks about everybody...which of course Mike O'Meara proceeds to do!

Well, I called Scooter who explained that Mr. Krisik "forced" them to run the show, but to please give it a listen and see what I thought. Over the next couple of days I did listen...and at first said "what-the-*#!*" is this? After a few days I began to "get it" and realized this show was the ultimate put-down of bad radio...and a tribute to what "live" radio should be - spontaneous, fun, totally off the wall, and totally unpredictable! It got so I could not STOP listening to it and had to buy a walkman to take with me so I could leave the car my work done!

Turns out Don & Mike BEAT Rush Limbaugh in 25-54 adults on KFBK-AM Sacramento, Rush's adopted hometown where his show actually started in the early 80s. Kfrisik was so impressed with this he ordered the show on KFXD. I talked to Alex Krisik when he was in Boise onetime about this and he told me to call KHTK-AM and confrim this. I called Mike Ramey the PD who told me it was true - KHTK DID beat Rush in 25-54 adults. Ramey said Don & Mike were so popular that if he took the show off, he "have to leave town." The listners would have his head.

I remember when they launched the "Love Dolls" and had each affiliate blow up an inflatable woman with helium and "launch" it from their studios. Each doll had a note placed in the "nether region" that told whoever found it to call the Don & Mike's 800 number for a cash reward where the "finder" was put on air. I remember one caller saying "I found your dollie...and she ain't got no clothes on. That's how I found the note." Funniest thing I ever heard! KFXD did launch a doll and there were cars lining Amity Road to watch it. it think the KFXD doll landed in Nebraska. Some were never found.

Anyway, I think Don & Mike will do well here. KFXD's ratings were GOOD for the two books they ran the show...and in their last book tied "The Arrow" (103.3) and beat "Rock 97" in males 18-34 25-49, and 25-54. It is mostly a male audience, but gets female numbers too after the women figure out how funny the show really is.

Is it just me, or has Don and Mike lost some of their "edge" since the last time they aired here in the Treasure Valley?

It's finally going to be "FLASH FRIDAY" here in Boise!! It's about time. Leykis is the best and if you listen for a couple weeks (without prejudice)you'll be hooked. And Carolla is great, although Danny Bonaduce is not as good as the old sidekick. He can rant about anything and everything and has a helluva vocabulary. His group of characters is fantastic. He is one of the Howard Stern replacements that has made it. This is The Man Show on radio.

And I loved the on-air reads for the "products" Art would pitch from Peenman Enterprises.

I remember this heat-resistant suit Art (er, Phil) was advertising that when the Sun went supernova you'd be nice and comfy wearing this suit from Peenman Enterprises.

I think their web address was: www.thingsundermybedscareme.com

It will be interesting to see if Tester goes after the BSU sports contract. KBOI and Citadel have really deep pockets, Tester has guts. This will be interesting to watch... Certainly it will be a challenge to the BSU/KBOI relationship if Tester follows through.
