No, I never did hear about it. Since I was working the night shift, the only people I ever saw were Spider (don't recall his real name) and Dave who came in for the morning shift after my shift. Spider was usually getting ready to go party, so he just wanted to scoot out of there, and I was usually pretty red-eyed and looking forward to the drive back up to Moscow. I spent a couple of years there, but since I was living in Moscow and only drove down for my shift, I never did really talk to any of the daytimers. Sounds like I missed.

Hey 20 years ago,

Did you ever get the chance to sneak a peak in the KRLC-KMOK Emergency Broadcast Bomb Shelter and hole in the ground studio? Unless you knew it was there, it was a badly kept secret and an artifact from the days of primary and secondary relay stations. "Duck and Cover."

That was a great station with a lot of history behind it. One sunday, I got the chance to look in one of the scrapbooks. Photos of remotes from downtown hotels and their performing big bands... that was a time back in the 30's etc.

I certainly do! Drake-Chenault was brand new when I started at Q-99 way back when. There weren't any announce tags on the reels we had there as there was still a warm body at the mic at that time. When I was working for KMOK in Lewiston, there were reels for the country side, but I don't recall their call letters. I'd have to watch those reels because they were completely automated already. There was an alarm that would light in my booth when the reels needed changing, and we needed to make certain the carts were syncing correctly. Needed to check the "time" cart to make certain it was giving the correct time. That was one huge machine! It had about 200 carts, and I don't even remember how many reels. I tried to ignore it as much as I could. :) I had reels and records on the rock side, so I could go between the needle and the tapes. I loved the studio location. I worked the night shift and could look across the valley at the cars coming down Lewiston Grade. I miss it, but I don't.

Song tagging. Nothing new. Remember the old Peters Productions, Drake-Chenault, and other old reels that had generic announce tags at the end in the seventies and eighties. By the way, damnit, don't forget those had to be "TAILS OUT." The old-timers know what I am talking about.

I have heard this is a technique used on Alt. Rock/Hip Hop/Top 40 stations all around the West Coast. Just more re-cycled ideas from elsewhere, No real news here.

I have not had the chance to hear this, how are they doing the tags with one announcer or is it tailered to the announcer who is "on the air" at the time?
