KMCL-AM sold, owner to run FM for now

Don Day | November 22, 2007

Brundage Mountain Air is out of the radio business after selling KMCL-AM. The buyer is is Holly Larsen, operating as “Mountain Air.” Larsen lives here in Boise – due to the holiday I haven’t tried to make contact. The new company will not only run the low-power AM via a time brokerage agreement, it will run KMCL-FM as well.

You’ll remember that KMCL-FM has been purchased by FM Idaho – and will be moved to Parma on 101.1 FM with 100 Kw of power – giving it a decent Boise-area signal pattern. Tester Broadcasting operates FM Idaho’s Boise-area properties. It appears Larsen’s company will operate KMCL via a time brokerage agreement with FM Idaho until the station is moved to Parma

Oldtimer, our resident FCC expert notes that Larsen may not have a tough time replacing KMCL in the McCall area if she chooses to. OT notes that there are four FM frequencies allocated to the area awaiting auction.

I am sure the citizens of Parma will be thrilled to know they have a radio station…They will just have to drive over to Nampa to visit it…like the citizens of Ontario do to see their old FM… and not withstanding all the other creative moves that have been done with other rural stations that used to have a local presence….

    and so it goes…

Ok, let’s see if I get this straight. McCall station KMCL-Am is really in Boise, KMCL-FM is licensed in Parma, but really in Nampa, KSRV-FM used to be in oNtario and is now In Boise? This means KIOV is probably not in Notus but in hmmmm, Meridian, Emmett???
This is more confusing than the BCS. Can’t we have a radio station stay in one place for a change? At least I know where KBOI and KBGN are.
Oh, and by the way, Radio Free DC is not really in DC. It’s in Honolulu — or maybe the Philippines with Art Bell.

Just so you know, KSRV is still in Ontario. But the rest of the Tester Broadcasting stations are in Nampa. I do have prifict knowledge about this one. Also, What is Holly Larson going to do with KMCL AM. Remember, they do have an AM frequency. I think it is at 12 40 or 12 30 on the dial. Will she continue to own that one? I will talk to you later.

KSRV AM is in Ontario. The FM is no longer a local concern as far as the programming or origination goes. It is being used as a BOISE station. That was the price of “Dumping and Bumping”

Is this the first major metamorphosis the Boise radio market has undergone? Does anyone else remember so many changes in ownership, formatting, and frequency changes occurring so rapidly?

KMCL AM is 1240. They almost make it to McCall @ night since their transmitter’s just NNE of Donnelly. When I heard it last winter it was badly overmodulated/distorted.

    KMXM’s comming back???

    D. Prior to the Commencement Date hereunder, Licensee has also been acting as the broker of time on Radio Station KMCL-FM, FCC Facility ID #7377 (referred to hereafter as “KMXM”), McCall, Idaho, pursuant to that certain Time Brokerage Agreement (the “FMTBA”) dated as of September 14, 2007 between Licensee and FM Idaho, LLC (“FM Idaho”), and is willing to assign certain rights under the FMTBA to Broker for and during the common term thereof and hereof. The Station and KMXM are collectively referred to herein as the “Stations.”

KMXM has been “reserved” with the FCC by FM Idaho, LLC for use in place of KMCL-FM once the move to Parma is finalized which is not expected until summer of 2008.

so called radio sales and programming gurus coming in and
fooling the owners with deep pockets and getting all the authority in the world to just evaporate the workers who either made the stations the way they were and then spending money they cant even recoup for a couple of years and moving on. oh by the way ksrv-am is still
pluggin along despites the ceos poison fingers.

What is KMXM going to play once the move to Parma takes place. Another question I have is, Will you still get KMXM in Mccall once it moves to Parma? I will talk to you later.

Lumpy…according to the FCC coverage map for KMXM at Parma, the signal will NOT reach McCall. It is intended to be a Boise/Treasure Valley signal. Maybe call Dave Testor to get an answer on your format question.

Yes, in a recent interview on a certian Boise TV station, on the Yellowpine Harmonica Festival… Dave was interviewed about the support KMCL and the McCall area were giving that small community after this summers firestorms… the 3/4 key at the bottom gave him as the “owner” if memory serves me right…

As part of the research involved in getting the History of Idaho Broadcasting webpage in order, it is interesting to note that KMCL (AM) is still listed in the FCC records as owned by Dave Eaton, and the former KMCL-FM (Now KMXM) is now owned by FM Idaho Co., LLC … Same group that owns KSRV (Bob FM). That was stated in the story that started this thread, so that’s not news, but no change in FCC records for the AM yet… Now it is possible the records aren’t yet updated.

The would be great! The country format is horribly under-represented in this market. (Yeah, right.)

Actually, last time I checked out Radio-Locator, it states KMXM’s format to be “80’s rock”.

If the timeline is correct the sale of KMCL-AM to “Mountain Air” will be final after January 31st.

Just could NOT resist, DAVE EATON! Our time[s] with KMCL AM [K-MCCALL COUNTRY] were most memorable and now that I am alone, here in Orofino, Idaho…I’ve attained the handle of: “The Orofino Oaf!” ‘Twould appear the broadcast industry in Valley County is suffering from the same turmoil that that region finds itself in, in general! When we came to town and checked the thickness of its phone book…we knew we were in for an uphill battle! But…it was worth it, as we were a Family and we worked it like one! To include Sports and Paul Harvey! Both easy to sell and looked-forward-to, each and every day! Yeah, we even had a Gospel Song, once an hour! They sold, easily, as well! jhm

KMCL (AM) has been deleted from the FCC database.
    License & call sign deleted.
