More talent changes at Peak Broadcasting Boise - as Brian “the Bird” exits KAWO/Wow Country 104.3. Brian started with KAWO as evening host before sliding into the AM show producer job. (He also did weekends on KTMY before the station was rebranded under the Wow Country name).
This is the third on-air staff cut at Peak in the past week.
A memo obtained by Idaho Radio News written by Peak Boise SVP Kevin Godwin says the decision to let go Melissa Dawn and Greg Williamson the day before Thanksgiving was made after “months of thought and consideration.” Godwin’s note says Dawn and Williamson are “both terrific people and this was a very difficult decision.” He also said that if “given the opportunity, would hope to have them back at Peak Broadcasting.”
KXLT’s morning show will remain in place, but the station will focus on “more music at work.” Wether this means voice trackers or no jocks at all is unknown.
Also: Along with the move to morning traffic anchor, Tobin Jeffries will no longer hold the title of program director for KXLT/107.9 Lite FM. Current KCIX/Mix 106 program director Brent Carey will take over that role, with Jeffries acting as assistant program director for Lite, as well as network operations manager for the traffic group.

So, let me get this straight. You take much time and consideration in letting someone go - especially two veteran and class-acts like G-Dub and Melissa, and then you choose do to it the day before Thanksgiving? Uh-huh. Think you could have done just a bit more thinking on that one. Even playas recognize a ‘Holiday no-breakup’ period…where even if you want to dump your girl you don’t do it between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Let ‘em down after the holidays and before Valentine’s day. Nice, Godwin….really nice. I hope there’s a big ‘ol lump of coal in your stocking. Either that or a flaming pile of poo.

YOWZERS!!! Janice bringing out both six shooters on that one. I am glad to see someone shooting straight from the hip on this issue. Terminating Mr. Williamson & Ms. Dawn certainly seems to be a cowardly move. To follow it up by stating, “the decision to let go Melissa Dawn and Greg Williamson the day before Thanksgiving was made after “months of thought and consideration.” Godwin’s note says Dawn and Williamson are “both terrific people and this was a very difficult decision.” He also said that if “given the opportunity, would hope to have them back at Peak Broadcasting.” makes such a cowardly move even more egregious. Godwin knew they were going to be dismissed before the holidays. It was a calculated move, which is why there were “months of thought and consideration”. It took Godwin a lot of thought and consideration regarding how he was going to dismiss personnel and when. It was very cold, very calculating, and very cowardly.
That’s my opinion. I’d like to hear yours.

While firings and termination are as common as the air we breath in the radio business, it does strike me rather odd that “Management” and I use the term hesitantly in this case, could have been a little less of a Scrooge. Gee, don’t you think that firing quality talent in this manner -at this time of year (a somewhat sacred time for most, a time of goodwill and kindness to all…) would have not have had the affect of leaving a lasting impression upon the public (listeners) and those here in the inner sactum of the “business?” I cannot help but think that PEAK Broadcasting has left a black mark upon its reputation. Perhaps there will be funds in the budget to hire a PR and marketing person to answer the phone now that your high profile and very local on air team is gone. Another aspect of this entire situation that perhaps you should have thought about is what this type action does to prospective talent looking to perhaps make application…You arent letting the graveyard weekender go… And then again there is the lingering question in my mind as to the ability for the firm to afford to have a good morning team in the first place. Well all this is complete speculation on my part, For what its worth, I too would like to add my Best Wishes to the team. I am very confident that you both will go on to bigger and better positions with a firm that will treat you right and make it right with you.
