Idaho’s Best
Don Day | December 4, 2007Last month, I featured the outstanding work of Peak Broadcasting’s Robin Scott. I planned to make this a monthly feature – and ironically, was set to feature Peak’s Greg Williamson this month.
I want to know who you think is the best person working in Idaho radio, and why. Content, programming, sales, administration – they are all fair game — and in all markets. Instead of doing this in the comment thread, please send me an e-mail at idahoradio@gmail.com. I’ll try to feature several of these before Christmas, then again after the first of the year.
Please tell me who you think deserves recognition – and why. The why is key: I need to know what they do that’s so great.
Take 60 seconds and nominate someone. It’s easy. And I won’t include YOUR name, unless you expressly tell me it is OK.

Buster- It was a BUY IT NOW. So its now in the safe hands of Rocky pending its delivery. Thanks for letting us all know of the auction!….way to go Rocky!!!!!
Congratulations Rocky!!!!! This Bud’s for you.
Actually…I believe Rocky (aka Santa) prefers Jack Daniels :)
Close …. Black Velvet …..(but I wouldn’t turn down Jack Daniels)
d’oh.
Now I’ve got that horrid song stuck in my head. Make it stop. Make it stop.
Let’s all help Tim with his schizophrenia by singing the following well known themes:
1) Here comes the King, here comes the Big Number One
Budweiser Beer is Beer that’s second to none
The King is calling, so loud and clear
There’s only one Budweiser Beer
There’s only one Budweiser Beer
The song concludes with a refer back to an earlier well-known jingle (see below):
When you say Bud you’ve said it all
When you say Bud you’ve said it all
2) Baby, if you’ve ever wondered,
Wondered whatever became of me,
I’m living on the air in Boise,
Boise and (your favorite station call letters).
Got kind of tired packing and unpacking,
Town to town and up and down the dial
Maybe you and me were never meant to be,
But baby think of me once in awhile.
I’m at (your favorite station call letters) in Boise.
Another piece of history claimed — The KMFE poster arrived today…..
Congratulations RDS!!!!! I look forward to seeing it displayed.
Did you get my email?
I did get your mail — if you did not get my reply please let me know. There was something I wanted to know.
RDS,
I did not get your email. My email address is rodthomson7@yahoo.com. Please be careful not to place a “P” in my last name. We had the “P” kicked out of us many years ago and have been spelling our surname the “dry way” since.
I resent the e-mail — I hope you get it this time.
Ooooops — Almost forgot — for a preview of the poster you can go here

Ok, Ok….. Someone asked why I resented the e-mail. That’s one of those darn english words that means two things depending on how you say it or read it. What I meant was I re-sent it …..sent it again, repeated the attempt, e-mailed another copy ….
I think you get the idea ……..
At any rate, Buster Bronco, if you aren’t getting my mail, I need to find another way to get ahold of you….:)
Well, keep trying email at the address I gave you. I will email you later with additional contact information. I just checked my email and had none.
Would anybody like to know what the letters of the old KBRJ stood for. The info about Ralph Frazier is correct a couple of other name that should had been mentioned with the station is Rex Jensen and his brother Jack. Take that from someone who knows.
Jack:
Would the Jack mentioned in this article be Boises Jack Amstrong “The All American Boy”
Bob would that be Bob Lee who put his fist thru a wall at the Meridian studios.
Larry as it is said is Larry Lomax who I believe got clotheslined at a staff party and had to go in and have stiches and ahve the PD do his show the next day.
Don Kelly who was working at a tire store until he went on the AIr with KBBK full time.
Tom Evans the PD who had a groupie who ended up being his wife. (sorry Tom)
I have a few stories……
KBRJ —
K (western radio stations)
B (Burt)
R (Rex)
J (Jack)
Burt was Burt Oliphant, the actual owner of the stations. Rex was Rex Jensen, manager of the stations, and if memory serves me correctly, was in some way related to Burt. I could be wrong on that, but that’s what I remember. And Jack was Jack Jensen, Rex’s brother and Sales manager of the stations.
They changed the call letters from KATN when Burt bought the stations, sometime around 1971 or ‘72.
Big Jack, another name i haven’t seen/heard for years hehe Hope your also doing well :) Has anyone heard from Neon Leon? And for grins, can someone recount the story of Wombat’s departure? lol
