Must-listen: KTHI’s A Christmas Carol
Don Day | December 22, 2007
This Monday and Tuesday at noon and 7pm, KTHI/107.1 K-Hits will do something unique these days: present a radio play. The station will present A Christmas Carol, featuring members of Journal Brodcast Group filling each of the starring roles.
Tracy Mitchell and Margo Vaughn narrate the play – with KJ Mac as Mister Scrooge, Carl “CB” Ballance as Jacob Marley, Barry Lewis as Fred and KJOT/J-105’s Kristine Simone as the solicitor. Brian Rodgers (production director), Rockwell Smith (our “own” RDS) and Rick Kemp (JBG chief engineer) fill the roles of the three ghosts. Boise Traffic’s Susie Black pulls double duty as Belle and Martha. JBG Boise GM Bob Rosenthal appears as “Mr. Rosenthal” – KRVB/94.9 The River’s Tim Johnstone is (who else) Tiny Tim – and The River’s Rochelle Smith plays Peg. Sabra Brue (sales), Sandy Anderson and young Damian Mac round out the cast.
The group gathered in a Plaza Seven conference room earlier this month to perform the play, and Brian Rodgers produced the event. JBG even scored a sponsor – Paul’s Market – making this bit of good radio a commercial success as well.

FUN!
The graphic design on that logo needs a little work though, I had to struggle to figure out what it was saying.
I saw the big “CC” and was for a moment worried that Santa wasn’t the only thing coming back to town.
Kudos to the JBG. Great local radio. Next year would be cool using well known local personalities like the Mayor, Govenor and first ladie.
Isn’t this the exact same thing KBOI did seven years ago? And wasn’t K.J. Mac Scrooge in that one, too?
Yes he was…
Does anyone remember the single “Blue Christmas” parodied by Porky Pig that KQFC used to play every year when KJ was there?
There was food on hand as well. Dave Tester brought in his famous Baked Reindeer and doughnut casserole for all to enjoy… You cant have a Pauls Market event with out Dave.
First of all, it IS possible to have Paul’s event without Dave. Tho there may be an “Aaaah, Dave” somewhere in the program…. You’ll have to listen. And, somewhere, I have Porky’s Blue Christmas. And it IS funny.
Ok, I couldn’t resist. You can listen to Porky’s Blue Christmas — a link to it is on the front page of my site. Just click on my name (RDS) and find the Blue Christmas link. Enjoy …..
I’m looking forward to enjoying the K-Hits Christmas Carol, should be great!
Hey K-Hits-ers (?) – will an MP3 be available, either on khits.fm or dropped in my e-mail box for posting here (after its transmitter airing of course)?
KJAY AND LARRY RULE!!! aWESOME RADIO!!!!
i too must say kudos to were all involved. my family was enjoying a game of monopoly christmas day as the showed aired. we all enjoyed it. kj and i really never got along. i remember telling him once when he was ops dir
for my company……hey remember kid i was in radio when you were still looking. didnt go over to well. any way
kj and crew good job on this one….truly local radio
thats what im talkin about…….
Thanks to all who made comments about our little production. My goal is to get it up on our pod-cast page of our web-site sometime this weekend. Hey clyde, sorry if you think we didn’t get along in my stint as Ops Dir….but, hey I must have sucked, cause I only lasted 6 months. Ahh radio gotta love it.
yeah but kj you landed well…..keep up the real radio vibe
Knows Don’s Dad, we had a Christmas Carol “group hug” of a bunch of CC staff for a few years on KIDO, featuring Governor Kempthorne as the Narrator. He did quite well, and may have a future in it…that is, if the whole politics thing doesn’t work out!
I remember that. Pretty good radio too. Wasn’t Jon Duane the Scrooge? If he wasn’t, he should have been. ;-)
Hey KJ and any others learning to relive or live out once again the golden days of radio… When it was the theater of the mind…and fun to hear a radio production-
Here is an idea you are welcome to have and use-
We have all kinds of volunteer theaters, playhouses, and performance festivals etc, Why not organize something like the Idaho Radio Theatre?
You could get together and produce, voice and just be creative with scripts, plays etc. Hey, you could even give birth to some creative college students plays etc.
Maybe you could even find a local radio station that would embrace airing the production as part of its commuity service. They could find sponsors etc. or you could pre-package and sell it yourselves etc,
Well, I dont need to drag this out to much you get the idea and you have your own concepts of what could develop out of it… So ponder the idea and go with it if it tickles your fancy.
Nice idea, RadioActive. Given the current state of radio, I would guess your proposal would be something that BSU Radio or Idaho Community Radio would be willing to support. KFXD and KBOI might support the idea, but doubtful.
I have a feeling community radio is going to spawn a lot of talent and be very popular. Watch out for KBSU too. I have a feeling they will be surprising people in the next couple of years.
Sorry it took so long but we now have the enitre production on our web site. Look to the pod-cast icon and hopefully you will enjoy!
