B-O-B from A-to-Z

Don Day | December 27, 2007

This isn’t the world’s newest idea – but KSRV/96.1 Bob FM is running through its playlist from A to Z (by song title). On the way back from McCall today, my fellow car-dwellers and I had fun trying to ID the song as it came on. We listened from It’s Not Unusual by Tom Jones (one of 15 songs that start with It) to Jump by the Pointer Sisters.

This illustrates the need for intellectually stimulating radio in this market. Leave it to a Tester station. “Ahhhhh, Dave!!!!”

I usually agree with most of your points Buster, but on this one I have to stray…. I dont know for sure, but I doubt very much that Dave has anything to do with the countdown…

I doubt if Dave has anything to do with the programming content other than to make sure the bill is paid each month for the satellite programming service.

I’ll bet that its the programming service that is responsible for the concept of “BOB FM” rolling out the songs as part of the year in review that goes hand in hand at this time of the year…

I humbly stand corrected. I keep forgetting how horrid holiday season radio is.
I suppose listening to an alphabetical countdown is more intellectually stimulating than listening the 99.1 FM “The Man”. That babble is so bad all three of my dogs started singing:
“Gloom, despair and agony on me-e!
    Deep dark depression, excessive misery-y!
If it weren’t for bad luck I’d have no luck at all!
Gloom, despair and agony on me-e-e!”

Buster, now I agree with you again. I am too deeply disapointed with “The Man” as well. I was hoping for more there too as well. So much potential. But just because I dont find it enjoyable is meaningless- I guess we shall see how it ends up with the ratings this time around. And as to the Bob- It should be interesting to see how it does in the books. It might surprise us all.

IF it does do well, Peak might want to consider having their version of BOB as well just to run interference from a sales point of view. Given where they are going with KXLT “kinder and gentler and more sterile” format it would not take much thought.
