Ratings: Did Jon & Chris help… KIDO
Don Day | February 4, 2008KIDO/News Radio 580 had a solid book – with its best numbers since 2004, landing at a 6.3 in the 12+ numbers. KFXD/ All Talk 63 didn’t fare as well – with a .9 rating – its worst performance since at least 1998. Its been suggested that perhaps the diary system is benefiting Jon & Chris – since the duo used to be on KIDO/630 AM. At the end of the day though, does Peak care?
While personal taste is always subjective, Jon and Chris are doing well for KFXD, however the line up that follows is really not that strong. I don’t feel compelled to stay with the balance of the day because I don’t feel connected to the hosts and their topics. With a stronger lineup for the rest of the day the ratings could be higher.
Also, since Jon and Chris were so closely branded with KIDO, it may be possible that listeners still think they are still on KIDO. Hard to read this one, but still possible.
630 = KIDO
580 = KFXD
Those were so well locked to each other for so many years it will always be confusing to the listener if they are over 25 or 30. Jon & Chris ARE on KIDO to many people. It’s the button they used to push for KIDO.
The confusion created by the infamous swap a few years ago may never go away. It was a dumb move then, and it is still dumb today. Problem is … would changing it back help? Maybe, and maybe not. Those two stations will forever pay the price of not knowing who is really listenting because of the confusion they brought upon themselves. My personal opinion would be to put the KFXD call back on 580, and the KIDO call back on 630. But with damage that’s been done, the only way to fix it may be to change both calls to something different. That would further destroy two heritage call signs, but who cares anymore? It is sad when histoical landmarks such as these calls once were is tarnished by foolishness. It is kind of irreversible vandalism.
Well said Rocky. Too bad today’s answer to everything is change it. And for those who thought wholesale changes had to be made on KFXD, look at KGEM and KCID, then tell me again why music based formats won’t work on AM.
I’ve been listening to John forever he used to be cattycorner to the present police station in Nampa.
I will continue to follow him as long as he is on the air.
At one we worked together at”NIshitani” Produce. So I do consider hi a very long time friend.
Thank you
Jim
I have been listening to John and Kris for over 15 years on the radio and since they changed the programming I don’t listen in the morning. I know they are on another station and I do sometimes listen to them but it just doesn’t seem the same. I don’t like the people they have on now. The topics are boring as are the people. I go back after 10:00 after they are off. I wish that they had not changed but since they have so did I.
Well, actually a lot has changed. And for the better. No more Traffic and weather every 10 minutes, followed by an endless stream of features and commercials. More chance for YOU the listener to interact! Do you not like the people on KIDO (they are very hard working hosts) or do you not like the guests on KFXD? Just curious…
John & Chris,
Love your programme. Your comment this morning that Australia does not have a sub-prime mortgage problem….may be misdirected.
FYI
I was raised in Australia and stay in touch with friends there. As an American in the 60’s went to a highly coveted and experimental school in Western Australia. A good friend of mine owns his own reality firm and has indicated that the Australian economy has gone thru similar models of creative financing for home sales & perhaps some we have not heard of. thanx jb
