Did the snake come from administration?
I hope Kate is doing OK. I understand the comedy value of watching people freak out. But, when one is very anxious or scared, this really is not fun. I commend her and Ysabel Bilbao of KTVB for sticking with their features and controlling their fears. Both Ysabel & Kate deserve something special for their actions. I salute both ladies for serving above and beyond the call of duty.
How is what Kate did going above and beyond? She is a great woman but she knew about the show and what was going to happen… She didn’t have to agree to do that type of show and she surely didn’t have to agree to touch the animals.
Buster: Thanks for appreciating the implied humor of my earlier post. Apparently, some people take themselves WAYYYY to seriously! I salute them as well!
Rapidrunner: Those who take themselves too seriously need to realize the pedestal does fall. Life has a way of preventing one from getting too high and keeping one from getting too low. Life keeps us balanced right in the middle, just where we should be.
Special Ed,
My guess is that while Kate and Ysabel knew what was coming on their shows, neither knew or fully understood how they might react. Sometimes one thinks they will be fine and all heck breaks loose. The point is, the mastered their fears and remained focused on completing the task they set out to do. It took courage and dedication to do that. Give them credit for conquering their fears long enough to do their jobs and being as professional as possible.
:)
Hmmm…Methinks you doth protest too much…sorry if I offended your sensibilities! I spent 3 decades in the wonderful world of radio…an industry that, at one time, didn’t eat its young. And just to put your mind at ease…and hopefully put an end to your hurt feelings…I can honestly say that not ONCE in those 30 years, did I EVER take a swipe at teachers. I have WAYYYYY too much respect for teachers! ;)
And methinks thou doth muddy the waters with your selective interpretations.
The day has long passed when sales and programming are at each others throats. In the new age of radio we’ve come to believe we are equal partners. That’s why your so called “humor” is so lame.
My comment about teachers was simply a nod to the Vicar of verbosity. I wanted him to think about how he’d feel if your remarks had been addressed to his chosen career as opposed to mine. I’m sure he’d find it hilarious. (Not).
“delusions of adequacy” - Wow, I like it!!! I’ll have to remember to use that one some people I know that think they are all that and a bag of chips.
Teachers take swipes at administrators every day. It’s part of the love/hate relationship they have. Both parties are trying to achieve the same goals from two different perspectives and those perspectives and methods can clash at times.
For those of us who have heard the stories of the bygone days when “…sales and programming {were} at each others throats” and the same love/hate relationship prevailed among them, we can appreciate the “snake in the grass” humor even if it is no longer prevalent in contemporary society and living only in the annals of history.
Well, let me put a snake in your bed and see how you react. Anxiety is not a fun emotion to have to deal with. I think overcoming fear and anxiety is commendable. But, I guess, you wouldn’t understand unless you have been there.
Then you understand how difficult it is to battle back one’s anxiety and fears in order to accomplish the task. That’s why I think Kate & Ysabel, at the very least, should be recognized for doing their jobs and overcoming their fears to do it.
We do not need a public celebration or trumpet fanfare, just a simple “Atta Girls!!” would be sufficient.

Was this a snake they conjured up from the sales department??

Nope. They caught him when he crawled out from under his rock to make a pointlessly insulting post on a message board.

“Thanks for appreciating the implied humor of my earlier post.”

I guess one had to be there.

You’d still see the humor in it if he took a swipe at the integrity of teachers, right?

But go ahead. Laugh it up.

ok…you win! I can’t hope to exchange witticisms with someone who, apparently, suffers from ‘delusions of adequacy!’

“took courage and dedication to do that”
I could see using that phrase for a firefighter, policeman, or police woman, even a paramedic…..but a radio personality? Come on!
