I love splaining to my kids the words they're not to say unless they're alone and drop a hammer on their toe!!! Real classy! Ethics are gone and the high road is bare. I don't blame Paul J and his grouchy outtake on life. If Igan was talented he could work clean. But he can't look at his numbers.

Community standards: Do we still have those?
I'll have to check with my neighbors Homer Simpson, Hank Hill, and Peter Griffin on that.

Hijole, Señor Smith, cuidado con las pi***es palabras que dices! You know I'm kidding, huh? As for Peabody's question, yes. If I remember correctly KRXK, when it was running Spanish over a decade ago, was fined for some "palabrotas" or bad words on the air transmitted by Joaquin Garza via La Zeta radio network. I was living in TN at the time, but a friend told me that a Ricks College staffer filed the complaint, charging that it was a violation of community standards. The station shortly pulled the network and opted for a jockless one out of Guadalajara. Yes, Spanish broadcasters are under the same rules. I run syndicated programs on my station that usually are tame, but when in doubt, I have a rule to "cut out!" Beats paying a $10k fine.

Speaking of cursing in Spanish...

I can't speak Spanish, but if what I sometimes think I am hearing on Spanish radio really IS what I am hearing, there is some pretty questionable stuff airing in some of our local Spanish radio programming. Does the FCC hold Spanish speaking broadcasters to the same standards as English? If so, do they enforce them?

As a historian and political scientist, I agree with RDS's assessment, "I really think the freedom of speech intended by the founders of our country applied more to be able to speak freely about politics and government without being censored than it did to be “free” to be offensive to those around you."
The founding fathers original intent regarding free speech was to allow freedom of thought and opinion and free exchange of thought and ideas. However, in recent years, college students have challenged institutional bans on offensive speech saying they are concerned about boundary issues and the dangers that offensive speech could lead to hate speech. The high court has supported the students saying the institutions need to define what speech is offensive and what is hate speech. Only when defined, can the court define what is protected and what speech is not.
However, I still believe one has a personal responsibility for what one says and has the ability to control what one says. However, being under the influence of booze, drugs, or simple stupidity, seems to alter one's sense of personal responsibility.
So, when Paul J., K.J., or any announcer is broadcasting or serving as a public address announcer, it is best to follow Paul J.'s advice, "...shut your goddamn mouth”.
