Kicklighter kicks off 175, live
Don Day | April 1, 2008As we reported last week, KSAS/103.3 Kiss FM program director/afternoon host Steve “Keke Luv” Kicklighter will crack the microphone tomorrow morning at 10am – in an attempt to stay on the air live for 175 hours – awake and in front of the mic.
The promotion will also help raise awareness for child abuse prevention.
In a prepared statement, Peak SVP Kevin Godwin noted that 40% of domestic violence calls in Boise involve children. “As a parent, and resident of the Treasure Valley, these numbers are staggering,” he said.
Kicklighter will try to break the current Guinness World Record for marathon broadcasting An attempt by a Malaysian DJ to break a similar record in 2003 fell short at 79.5 hours – or 3.31 days. The poor dude collapsed.
A 110 hour marathon in 2005 by WPRK/Winter Park, MD succeeded – but it’s unclear if 110 is the current record. That attempt noted there are several rules set forth – including no co-DJ, normal studio equipment must be used, and that each piece of music must be between two and six minutes long.
Kicklighter will be monitored by physicians throughout the stunt. He has said on the air that he will crack the mic after each song – and will be spinning manually – sounds like a good time to defrag the Prophet hard drive.
UPDATE: The news release sent out said he would be playing “records” — but it’s clear that the music is still coming from the automation system.
