Kate McGwire’s loaner car stolen
Don Day | April 3, 2008KCIX/Mix 106 morning show co-host Kate McGwire is without a car today – after her loaner car went missing from her driveway. What’s worse? The car wasn’t even hers.
McGwire’s vehicle was in the shop – and she had a loaner vehicle from Nampa Kia. On the air this morning, Kate told listeners that she started her car to warm it up in the pre-dawn hours. Someone took off with the Black Kia Sportage loaner.

…which is exactly why I park my cars in the garage. Sorry Kate. But I guess if you’re gunna have your car ripped off, is nice that it wasn’t actually yours. Lets hope they don’t hold her car till they find the loaner!
…which is exactly why I want to know why of all the vehicles in the world, you would steal a Kia. That person must have been incredibly desperate for a ride.
The only nice thing is that it’s the what….right after spring book kick off?? At least the radio chatter side may pay off…it might have a ni$e outcome with a fat book bonu$. Always a silver lining hey…:):)
Why dont I do this as well…. Well in many cities and municipalities its is a crime to even leave your cars in the ignition….let alone leave it running as she did….why you are not with the vehicle. So should be interesting if the insurance company will pay off (if it did happen this way) Does her hometown have such an ordinance…..mine does.

If the radio gig dont work out for Kate maybe she can get a part time job doing this thing for people who have second thoughts about making their car payments and such…

by now, you’ve probably seen the Mix website, so you realize its a stunt…thats all. i was actually feelin’ bad for her when i first read the story in here. “now you know the rest of the story…”
It’s really sad when you have to resort to something like this to get ratings. What happened to the good old days when all you had to do was say that US West was blowing out the phone lines and to put a bag over your phone so dust wouldn’t get everywhere? We got all three tv stations to do a piece on that, and no little dj’s or listeners were hurt in the making of that program.
I have been a long time listener, until today. I just cant believe how everyone at Peak Broadcasting stooped to such horrible depths of deception, only to promote a contest.
Everyone at Mix 106, & Nampa Kia can deny all they want, but to drag this stunt out, scaring all of us so much to worry for Kate’s safety and for what? A gimmick? A fun spot? No, rather a calculating, cruel and misleading attempt to gain more listeners for a pathetic contest.
Nampa Kia can just forget about any further purchases from my family (2 in the last 2 years) and Kate and Mike should be fired, as well as all top management for allowing this to even be discussed, let alone make it happen.
After this sad fiasco, you really might just have ONLY 12 listeners. And those are only the ones that want good tips on stalking, scaring the crap out of innocent people, and how to manipulate the good and trust right out of everyone.
How dare you….. And how dare all of those involved, lying to us, deceiving all of us just for a stupid lame contest.

So Don, help me out on this one since you are in the newscenter of the world with your fingers on the pulse of all that happens…and you guys can call Ada County Law Enforcement boys and girls….Was a crime committed by filing a false police report. If not, does it fall into the area of deception or wasting their valuable time? If the same mentality were use for an AMBER ALERT would I as a listener/viewer be amused….me thinks NOT!
So, KCIX/Mix 106 is a Peak station, huh? If they tell lies to increase ratings, I wonder what they did to land the Bronco Sports contract????

Kate said her car got stolen on the air as a way to kick off a promotion where they give away a brand new car? Personally, just by the little bit of info that I know, I think it’s a pretty neat way of starting a promo.
I didn’t hear any of what happened, so really… why is everyone all worked up over this? How far did it go?

Dang… what’s with all the Kia comments?? I drive a Kia and it’s the only car I’ve ever had that has never had ANY major problems!
I love my Kia and it loves me but ya’ll are making me sad…
That is IF THEY ACTUALLY GIVE THE CAR AWAY….
I don’t care for the message it sends to kids that it is OK to lie about something as long as you are getting a positive outcome at the end. The means does not justify the ends.
I am glad they were caught and have to be responsible for their actions. It proves Treasure Valley radio is still small enough to be very transparent and the community will hold the stations and their personnel to a high level.
Yeesh wackyhost, I’m not mad, my feelings are not hurt, and I have nothing to get over. I’m not debating whether it was wrong or right… I’m debating if it was a smart thing to do. I listen to the show on a regular basis. It was interesting because I thought the stories they told were true. Now I’ll just assume its all made up to get ratings so I have no interest in tuning in.
Did Mike really get flipped off by that lady at Walmart when he was trying to return her purse? Probably not… No longer interesting.
Are they REALLY sending a message to kids that it’s OK to lie? Are parents REALLY having to sit their kids down to explain to them that Kate LIED to them about her car getting stolen?
I seriously doubt it.
Look, it was a “stolen car”. Did the entire Treasure Valley stop what they were doing to go out and look for her car? Did Peak file a police report? Haha. Prolly not. And they may have even gone as far as to inform the police about what they were doing just in case people saw a Kia that resembles the one they talked about and the police started getting calls about it.
Are you serious? It’s THAT big of a deal?
