Fact or bull crap

Save your sympathy. Stop looking for a stolen car. Stop trusting the people on the radio.

Kate McGwire’s car hasn’t been stolen - it’s a stunt. I’m sure it’s funny.

It’s yet another case of trying to trick the radio audience. There has to be a better way to create buzz and ratings.

I stole it, burned it, threw it off a cliff, and turned it into a home for badgers.

The good news is, the Kia warranty is so good, it’s covered!

There are a lot of radio stations to choose from in the Treasure Valley and this is one I won’t be listening to anymore. I don’t appreciate having my sympathy taken advantage of for a full day. And to think I DEFENDED them when everyone else was telling me it was a publicity hoax. I even lost $5 on a bet to my son. Yeah I know, I’m gullible, but just remember the story of the boy who cried wolf.

It wasn’t a believable story anyway. Who would want to steal a Kia? They do have a good warantee, but I don’t think it would be transferrable under those circumstances. What good is a Kia without a warantee?

Yeah, it was a good joke and I almost fell for it until I too realized,”who’d steal a Kia?” Next time she should get a Hyundai for a loaner. I hear that she can even leave the keys in that one and it will still be there in the morning.
But really, you should take heart in this because it appears your readers have a far better sense of comic relief than some of our local radio “talent”!!

This is why I am soooo glad that I’m not in radio any more…….all the hypocrites. I have read on this very same blog many times over the past 4 or so years about how radio sucks….there’s no creativity anymore…..just voice tracking juke boxes…..Now a station does a very creative promotion, that actually drew listeners right in. Whats the saying 80 percent of your contests will only be played by 10 percent of your audience? Well heres a contest that probably had 80 percent participating…not to bad. Nobody got hurt….nobody lost any money or was thrown into jail, and as far as I know the radio station didn’t kill anybody. The biggest crime I see here is that it was so well executed that some people are now embarassed or jealous that they didn’t think of it first. I for one say congratulations for thinking outside the box and not doing another caller number 100 contest or pick a key that starts the car.

I don’t listen to 106, but after reading about it here and hearing people talk about it around town, I for one will be listening Monday to find out where this thing is headed next.

come on people lighten up a little…..it’s not brain surgery and it’s supposed to be entertaining, but I guess we’ve been around boring cookie cutter radio so long, that we’ve forgot that. KUDOS to which ever Mix person that came up with the promotion. I for one, think it’s brilliant.

Okay, I’ll be honest. It creeped me out when I heard the eerie “electronic” voice on Thursday morning and that someone was possibly messing with a person in the media, and they may be a total psycho. When I realized today it was a promo, I didn’t think it was funny. I work in health care where we take situations that are serious very serious. To take the idea of a “fugitive” promoting theft and taking advantage of someone’s fear as a fun promo is totally sick and demented. Playing on people’s fear to get them to listen to their station is a slap in the face to their listeners. I have listened to Kate & Mike for many years, but now I will find another station with integrity and a sane sense of humor to listen to.

Editor’s note By way of disclosure - Belinda Day is my mother, but we haven’t discussed this topic.

OK, I guess I missed it; what was the contest part of this?

Brilliant! I had a friend text me today asking if radio were in their “sweeps”? I asked if she won something and she said no, but she was pissed at Mix 106. Could backfire
    on ya.

Radio people just plain suck… I’m surprised she didn’t try to go with: “I was at the salon, and my hair caught on fire!!” Kate is a worthless DJ anyway.

The contest most likely will be to find the “thief” and say the magic mix 106 phrase to him and win the car that he “stole”. No doubt you will have to listen a lot to get clues and such as to what he looks like and where he is etc… The clues the first few weeks no doubt will be entirely useless something like “I like to wear jeans and hang out in Boise during the daytime” or “I see something white everyday during lunch”. The name of the car dealership where the car was stolen from will get mentioned a lot…. The usual drill.

I do listen to 106 in the morning as the stories are often interesting (like the walmart purse incident or the recent one about Kate’s friend on her blind date with the weirdo).

The problem is once you know someone will just make up crap and say anything to keep your attention… Well its interesting if real but not if its fiction. I no longer believe anything I’ve ever heard on the show and no longer have any interest in listening.

Kate is a real and sweeeet person. A personal attack is not cool. Welcome to the world of hit and split!

That’s what is so great about Radio…..no one puts a gun to anyones head to make them listen….Every radio comes with a dial and an off button. I have a very funny feeling that for every listener that tries to prove a point and turns thier radio off or switches to someone else, they will be replaced by 3 or 4 new listeners who have been drawn in, find it compelling or just plain want to win a new $20000 car, no matter what model it is…..After all look at Howard Stern. People were so offended and upset at his show that he turned it into a $200 million dollar pay check……I guess everyone forgets the most important rule of publicty, that unless you kill or hurt someone, there is no such thing as bad publicity.

If this truly was as bad as everyone says, no one would say anythig….just shut your mouths don’t talk about it to anybody and turn off your radio. Even this blog is making it bigger than it probably is…..I wouldn’t have even had an interest in listening if I hadn’t read about it here, and as I said before, I don’t normally listen to them, but I want to know where this is headed, so, guess who will be listening Monday morning…..sorry but I’m one of the people who will be replacing someone who will be listening elsewhere.

I too left radio. Yes, I felt there was not much creativity, too many restraints, etc. I don’t listen to 106, but heard part of the show, than changed to listen to satellite. If they wanted to do the gimmick, let them do it. Radio is the theater of the mind.

p.s. My new career, I don’t have to be featured in the weight loss spots of how much I’ve lost. The weight loss comes with the job.

I don’t normally listen to this station…but am through this contest. Nothing changes…Mike is still a mean jackhole and Kate is a loud & annoying person…
