It is interesting that the calls will be switched to KQLZ. As mentioned, those were the call signs of LA’s “Pirate Radio,” which was programmed by Scott Shannon! The irony is that that station will be a part of Scott Shannon’s oldies network. I wonder if Michael Scott Shannon recommended those calls. As for the format, I can pick up SLC’s 860 sometimes and have heard it. In all honesty, it really is well programmed and it has a fairly decent sized play list. On a side note, 100.3, KQLZ’s old frequency in LA was sold last month to Bonneville International, which dumped out of the Idaho scene a couple years ago.

Tweak really means cheap, cheap, cheap. Boring is just an inevitable side effect. God forbid you actually spend money to entertain and audience.

To be a truly oldies station, you have to play the oldies. Boomer,a mis judgement of a slogan is a partial Boomer that leaves at least half of the real boomers out of the musical equation. How do you “Tweak” a limited, narrow format that reaches to the edge of boring?

KQLZ was the biggest thing to happen to Los Angeles in the late 1980’s. And Scott was the instigator.

There is a story behind those letters…but for the life of me I can not remember…Maynard Hicks was the one relaying it…

I remember tellingone of my voice guys who did a test run of stuff for the station….kq-qq pullman mos-COE.

Busted- I had one H of a time trying to get it right on the air until it took….then it was like so what was the big deal… not my choice for call letters but it works for them….
