Who plagiarized whom?
Don Day | June 17, 2008Tri-City Herald editor Rufus M. Friday:
“We have more readers today than ever before — for our newspaper, our website and our specialty products. That’s our most important measure of success for the future.”
Idaho Statesman editor Mi-Ai Parrish:
“We have more readers today than ever before – for our newspaper, our Web site and our niche products. That’s our most important measure of success for the future.”
Complete coincidence.
For amusement’s sake, I’d love to see them try that “readership growth is the most important measure of success” stuff in front of a room full of stockholders. I’m sure that would go over well.
As they are both McClatchy papers, could this have come from somewhere up the corporate food chain, perhaps as part of a news release quoting the company chairman or CEO?
Lack of originality is only one of the many fundamental deficiencies of mainstream print (newspaper) media today as they institutionally fail to recognize pathway to their demise.
P.S. the word is “plagiarized.” (Sorry, but my training compels me to notice such things)
Editor’s note: fixed
I wonder if the statement is at least true in the Herald’s case – because it’s not for IS. Readership is down 6%, the website grew only .1% and it killed its largest niche publication – Thrive.
Makes you wonder if the next thing we will see is a man holding a sign outside the “local” paper’s Boise offices reading….”THE END IS NEAR”
Newspapers are dying, but journalism isn’t. The only question is how long will it take for the successive channel to supplant the papers?
