Idaho Daily Statesman reporter/columnist Brian Murphy reports that Citadel will make a 5-minute presentation to the State Board of Education in Idaho Falls today in an effort to reopen the bid. Citadel’s lawyer said there were “some errors” in the selection of Peak - and hopes to re-open bidding. Citadel feels its financial compensation package wasn’t properly considered. (Peak offered more money, according to records obtained by Idaho Radio News).
State Board staff has already recommended approval of the Peak agreement.
Also - Peak GM Kevin Godwin tells Murphy that he hopes to announce the new play-by-play announcer for the games on KIDO by Friday. Godwin said there have been a high quality-level of applicants - with experience ranging from college, to NFL to network level.
UPDATE: Citadel’s efforts failed. Peak gets the contract.

whoever they pick for the play-by-play, I just hope its not voicetracked!

Or delayed!
That’s always fun. :)

Both of you gentlemen can relax.
It will play-by-played by a guy sitting in his living room in L.A. watching the game from a satellite feed from the location they are playing at….So you are both wrong…
on Jun 20th, 2008 at 4:39 am
Jac, you are SUCH a gentleman! Now, me…..another story.
on Jun 20th, 2008 at 5:51 am
RadioActive that is great. Why not, it’s how they basically do the traffic reports!
on Jun 20th, 2008 at 2:12 pm
Hmmm… It seems as though, “Both of you gentlepersons…” might have been a more politically correct way of wording that. ;)

Well Ken, I might be missing the “big picture”, but as I recall…Peak isn’t the group that’s been adding voicetrackers in town lately.
on Jun 20th, 2008 at 5:22 pm
Uhhh yeah, From what I’ve seen….Peak has been adding live shows recently, and Journal and Citadel have been adding voice trackers…..Ken, might want to look inside your own company when slamming others….something about throwing rocks in glass houses……I’m just saying…..

With the economy going to shit let’s see how long the live bodies last. A lot bigger markets than Boise have more VT’ing.
on Jun 20th, 2008 at 7:00 pm
I kind of thought Ken was joking. I know I was. Have you ever heard a play by play with a 9 second delay while you’re watching it on tv at the same time? It’s pretty funny.
on Jun 20th, 2008 at 11:53 pm
Perhaps I should have used the term Cattlemen…. Nah.
I agree with boiseengineer….it would seem the economy is going to hell in a handbasket. But look on the brightside…When they lay off all the on air talent to save funds…the sales staff can voicetrack- then that delay will come in handy….
on Jun 21st, 2008 at 5:32 am
uh, I WAS joking…being a bit silly…yet reflecting the times, while poking fun at no one company in general. (thanks Jac, for knowing that!) So, Poopoo, your remark is irrelevant in this case…pull in your claws. I know we voicetrack at Journal..EVERYBODY voicetracks somewhere within their schedule. When I originally said what I said, I just envisioned some “big” talent being hired from out of market for the games, and thought of the crazy scenario of them actually voicetracking the game calls…and hoping their outcome matched the real game results….
oh, why did I even open my keyboard…we live in such a literal world.
on Jun 21st, 2008 at 7:53 am
Ken- I think the term is not literal but liturgic (spelling) meaning everyone is a damn lawyer….
on Jun 21st, 2008 at 10:31 am
Or…perhaps ‘litigious.’

It’s unforchinent that Citadel can’t get over what has happened to them sense March of 2007. This is capitalism at it’s best. I think Citadel needs to think of a constructive strategy to combat what has happened to them. For example, get contracts with other sports teams around the valley. Or just try to make their stations sound better then Peak. BTW, if you have read my previous posts about Peak Broadcasting, you know what I think of Kevin Godwin. I think he is a good man. I have worked for him as an intern and I would never bad mouth him. I was impressed at his ability to keep us at Peak all motivated and how much he cared about the employees. I would have know problem working for Peak again if I had to. I just think the folks at Citadel are acting like a bunch of 3 year olds when it comes to Peak Broadcasting. What do they all say? “Life’s a bitch. Build a bridge and get over it.” That’s what Citadel needs to here. I will talk to you later.

Liturgical = pontifications = sermonic
Can I have an “Amen”?

Wow. I leave for three days and you all sound like you’re about to come to blows.
I’m going to leave more often ;)
