Citadel employees: no e-mail for you!

More than three years ago, Citadel employees lost their right to look at this site at work. They were told how vile it is - and told not to participate.

I thought that was dumb. This takes the cake though. Citadel employees also can’t check their personal e-mail at work. No kidding. Gmail, etc. is cut off on Citadel terminals.

No wonder Citadel folks are so loyal!

In 1936, Charlie Chaplin made a movie called “Modern Times”. In this production, judged to be one of his finest, Chaplin’s character addresses the frustrating struggle by proletarian man against the dehumanizing effects of the machine in the Industrial Age (at the time of Henry Ford’s assembly line), and various social institutions. The character finds himself dealing with various authority figures during his exploits such as the ‘Big Brother’ factory boss, known as “Big Bill”, portrayed by Stanley Sandford.
“Big Bill” appears to have invaded Citadel with this latest pronouncement. The corporations are getting too big for their britches. One of these days, the working class is going to get enough of this and when they do it’s gonna be “WHAM!!! Right in the Kisser” (or a lower area that I will not mention since this is a family site).

OLD news. That rule has been in effect for years!
It’s the same in many corporate networks. Makes sense since mail servers like Gmail is notorious for letting viruses through. Companies pay for the bandwidth to do business not for you to check on your dating service hits.

Opie and Anthony have been talking about Citadel lately. They say they bought Citadel stock at the IPO price of around $19/share. It’s now down to something like 87 cents. Nice going, Citadel. Granted I’m not a business genius, but there might be bigger things to worry about than DJ’s checking their personal email on company time.

Ok, maybe I’ll back off a little. If the rule is intended to prevent viruses I can understand it. However, isn’t that what virus protection is for?
Yes, Citadel has more to focus on than individual email accounts. Gee, maybe think about why your company is headed south and Peak is going strong. Did Mr. Bleymaier know something? Was their inside information used in the Bronco deal? Inquiring minds want to know.

As boise engineer put it…yup…old news. Been that way for years. Last time I was able to check hotmail at a citadel station…it was over on Potomac! (sp) ha ha ha

Just remember that every e-mail u send to “adult friend finders dot com” is stored on the company servers…

I’ve never had an employer that you could bring mail to work & they’d put a stamp on it AND mail it for you!

BB, I’ll be over to use your internet connection to do my e-mail and download things. Better yet, if you have wireless, leave it in tne clear so all your neighbors can use it too. Seems to be OK with you.

I find it very hard to believe Don you have nothing better to report on Citadel then a very old story on a policy many companies have in effect. Do you just not listen to any Citadel stations or is Peak paying you to be one sided? Maybe it’s because your employer is in bed with Peak as well? I spend a fair amount of time listening to all the stations and seems there’s a lot more going on then you care to mention. Granted it is your blog but if your gonna call it “Idaho Radio News” then report on the doings of all stations and not just Peak!!!! If not, then change the name Peak Radio News.

Maybe it’s because Peak is progressive and trying to win over cume and do the things to make a winning station and company. Me thinks people are getting a bit jealous that the un-corporate radio is winning folks over, while the corporate folks are having a tough time. And last time I checked, Don is reporting what all the stations are doing. It just seems that Peak is doing MORE at this moment.

you see the bias you want to see, Really?

Might be “old news” to you, but it’s “new news” to me.

    And here’s a tease: you won’t think I’m in Peak’s pocket tomorrow…

In my experience, when bad managements tank companies, rather than take the steps to fix the things they’ve screwed up, they instead focus on trivial things.

Ultimately, the outcome is the same: the place goes into the toilet, the employees lose their jobs, the investors lose their money and the incompetent managers get new gigs at another company–because of their “experience,” of course.

Last time I checked you couldn’t view the blog on Idaho Radio news wither. I could see why Kevin Godwind made that rull though. Personal email is carrying it to far. Unless they are afraid that to many people are spending to much time checking their email. I do wonder though how they are defining email. That might sound like a dumb question. However, email is not just the Traditional hotmail, Yahoo or your software like Out Look checking your email and downloading it from the server. If I were to be at Citadel and go to My Space or Face Book, and check messages from my inbox, would they consider that email to? I know that is a dumb question. But were in a day and age where we have to define a lot of things. Farther more, suppose I go to Face to check out a blog. What would Citadel do about that? This is where it gets complicated.

So, let me see. If Citadel’s house email goes down (which servers have been known to do) and I have a good showprep sheet, I can’t send it to my Yahoo account & check it? Silly.
And hey Busted, you leave AFF out of this! I’ve found several, er, um, “listeners” who frequent that site!

Oops…I just “outed” Postal Pete’s dating service!

BTW…you ARE correct sir…It has come up at least half a dozen times where I would fill in for the am show…had e-mailed the prep to my self at work and BAM! no internet. No way to get online. I had also sent it to my Hotmail…did not matter no workie. we usually got one of the Mee’s to place the call at 4:30am to the Engineer…

Now by sending it to my blackberry I could read the jokes in “real little font”…and still get “real little laughter!”

Work / Life balance… does anyone in radio management have any idea what that means? Not when I was in the business and clearly not today. I get all of my email on my Blackberry … home, work and my own businesses. You may not be able to use “company” hardware to check your personal email but this might be an alternative. BTW… with my BB Curve the tiny font is less tiny.
