Deeds deconstructs the X
Don Day | September 27, 2008Idaho Daily Statesman entertainment writer Michael Deeds featured KQXR/100.3 The X’s changes in his weekly column. Not much new there, so this link is mostly as a courtesy… but there’s this line: “I can now name half a dozen FM stations that play Led Zeppelin in the Treasure Valley.” Well, there’s five at least – KSRV/96.1 Bob FM, KKGL/96.9 The Eagle, KQXR/100.3 The X, KRVB/94.9 The River and KJOT/J-105… so 5/12ths of a dozen… or something.
Doesn’t KTSY play Stairway To Heaven?
Sorry, couldn’t resist.
“So where are radio listeners in the Treasure Valley supposed to go to hear alternative music? “Those three people can go wherever they want to go,” Nicolato quips.”
Last I checked homeboy, it was good for 7-8 shares in the market. I mean, when done correctly of course.
I am more irritated at this decision daily. Unless they plan on flipping J-105 or something, there is no logistical reason for this decision.
I miss the old Kallao days. Thank goodness I now live somewhere that the music is taking center stage (minus mornings) on the local alt. rocker. All it took was a PD change – and what looks like some strong audience research or a great A.M.T.
I believe that the X will do very well as an active rocker, but Kallao does have a point. Is there really room for three stations playing such similar music? I’m afraid someone might get squished out of this market like a wet watermelon seed.
It makes me wonder what will be the future of J105. I hope the intent isn’t simply to age the music up again and persue the Eagle. Remember the “Classic Rock that Rocks” era? That failed miserably. Aside from Bob and Tom’s usual success, it looks like the Eagle possibly had a fluke book this time, anyway.
Most of all, I would hate to see J105 flip away from a rock format, since it is the area’s oldest heritage rock station. They started spinning rock “records” back in ‘85.
This is big news. I was under the impression The X was still healthy. Yes, The X sure has been deconstructed all right.
Journal wouldn’t make a descision like this lightly and I’m sure my friend Dan and the gang there have good reasons for it.
To an outsider, it looks like a lot of effort to defend a narrow piece of musical turf. You would have to believe other adjustments are coming.
Bands from the 80s like AC/DC..
and ‘the korn’
bumpkins.
