You know, a good.. no, make that, a great programmer, said this about callers... Most of the time, callers tend to bring a show down. Or, they are just plain bad. Listen to Rush... Even better, listen to Jim Rome... He sometimes doesn't take calls at all during a show... Phone callers don't make a show. Content makes a show! If you have good content, good guests, that can be enough. I have heard callers do nothing but drone on, and on, and on about.... nothing. By the way, I can assure you no one was promoting a show or book. Must have had a nightmare during that nap, Buster. Had you been awake, you would have heard a great hour.

Did anyone ever think about what makes this Blog (and another similar to it in Seattle) so popular? Passion! Most of us are passionate about broadcasting, whether we are in the business, semi-retired, or whatever. That's why there are so many comments, positive and negative.

One solution to consider for the John and Chris show is passion about US! I really don't care about "Joe Six Pack" unless he lives in the Treasure Valley (and there may be someone just like him around somewhere). Leave the national junk to the national media. I don't know exactly when "Joe Six Pack" came to national attention, but I had my fill of him within the first thirty seconds of hearing about him.

Covering some of this national stuff is a lot like hearing a funny commercial. Hear it once, and you get the joke. After that, no one wants to hear it again, and the product they are selling gets missed in the boredom.

Talk about local entertainers, local events, politicians, and people with unique talents, business ideas or even inventions. How about local authors, writers, magazines, etc.

Passion for the topic(s) is what makes Coast To Coast AM draw an involved audience night after night. Let John and Chris explore their passion for Boise, the Treasure Valley and Idaho. I'm sure there are people here that are 1,000 times more interesting than Joe Six Pack.

I listened to Jon & Chris the other day. Granted, it may have been a bad day, but the only callers were the ones who were promoting their show or book. "Joe Six Pack" didn't call. Jon & Chris talked and talked and talked.....No one knew they were on and those who did really didn't seem to give two hoots.
Bad radio. I did get a good one hour power nap out of ithough.

Rainshadow put it very nicely.... And yes viewers/listeners do "get it" even when broadcast managers "don't".... There is a reason that station obtain and hold onto the top ratings spots and their owners-mangers would be wise to figure out that formula early on in their careers if they want to work for and with the best and brightest in the biz.

The business of radio is to build an audience, the larger and more involved, the better. Live and local does that very effectively. Making a commitment to the expense of producing the shows tells the community that the radio stations(s) are more than just automated outlets for nationally syndicated shows.

It also tells the potential advertisers that they will have live and local personalities available to promote their products and services in a way that connects with the community. As an advertiser, I would buy ads on KIDO/KFXD precisely because of the reasons noted.

There is a television station in Boise that has been consistently number one in the ratings book after book because they invest in the local community. There is another television station, which, while other stations are covering parades and community events, is running game shows.

Effective broadcasting is still making an investment in the local community, no matter what any consultants say.

Did anybody ever think that maybe this would be a good thing? Let's see... No other talk station is live and LOCAL! Try calling Rush and getting through, try calling Hannity, Beck, etc.. You are NOT gonna get through. Call Jon & Chris from 10 am to 2 pm. You are gonna get through, and you'll get your chance to talk, no matter your political preference. If you like a show, you don't abandon it just because it changes times. If you can't hear it in a building, and you are allowed to stream audio, go to the website and stream it.

Are you Crazy! I really do like the Jon and Chris show in the early morning, but will not follow them to the 10:00 am time slot over Rush. You're making a big mistake. Also not fond of the two guys on KIDO in the early time slot, so I may switch to FM 'til Rush comes on.

Let's go back to the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" idea. I have gotten used to the radio schedule in this valley and I liked it. Now you have to damage it with improvement. I'm sure Rush is an expensive show (have to pay Rush his $40 million), but if it worked a year ago it will work now. The economy is coming back!. Leave the schedule alone!!!

I'm sooooooooooooo confused. So KFXD is KIDO until it isn't ? What is it when it isn't? What does it hope to be when it is and when it isn't whatever it is or isn't trying to be what it is or isn't to be?
Gosh, sounds like the same questions I ask about Obama at least once a week.
Hamlet said, "... to thine own self be true." However, something cannot be true to itself when it doesn't have an identity. Having an identity is a sign of good leadership. Not having an identity means there is no leadership and, consequently, no vision.
