Eddy Schultz is a great host. I find it disappointing they decided to drop him, “liberal” label or no. Schnitt allows them to fulfill their obligation to Jones Radio Networks, obviously. It’s basically only in the southeastern U.S. I have no idea how that will work in Boise. It appears two hours will at least be live, but the last one will be delayed.

Tony Bruno is sports too, so they’re trying a hybrid sports and news talk I guess.

I liked 63KFXD a lot. It wasn’t solidly political or sports talk. But at least on January 1st, everything bad about talk radio will finally be on one station. I can finally delete 670 for good and replace it with a more useful frequency: 530khz. Who’s replacing Rush on KIDO (580, that is)?

Simulcast AM Idaho, on two separate stations but immediately next to one another, just for an hour and a half? Are they kidding?

Dan Patrick is going to get slaughtered. 0.5 share.

    Schnitt……. yet another failed experiment.

Clark Howard, promoted, and given the time would be a very successful program in this market. With the economy and the cost of living skyrocketing out of control, I could see the Howard show a very worthy staple in am daytime talk programing. It’s a mistake to drop Howard. That show is going to grow by leap & bounds. Schnitt for Howard is a very poor decision.

    Don’t pull Howard.

For all of those who will be losing your favorite talk show programs on these local am stations, I would encourage you to do what thousands and perhaps even hundreds of former radio listeners have been doing the past decade…. Find alternative channels for these programs.

Many talk shows stream audio on their internet sites. If they don’t stream on their homepage, find the web page of an affiliate that carries the program and see if that radio station streams the program on their home page.

You can also resort to what folks have been doing for decades and search the night skies for an AM station whose signal tends to be recieved in the local area. You might have to resort to what’s called a “long wire antenna” its quite simple and extremely effective at enhancing your radio’s ability to tune in previously weak signals. There are also small desktop units like the Select-a-Tenna that can boost a signal. If you are so motivated then check out this website for lots of educational radio reception information and really good products from a firm that gives great service and stands behind their offerings….its the CC Crane company out of Fortuna California. I think Ed Crane still owns the company and its really a fun and neat firm to do business with!!!!

If you are truly a dedicated talk radio consumer, there is an option that requires an investment of about 200 bucks and installing a “pizza” dish receiver on your hut. There are quite a few radio and TV stations around the nation and around the world that stream from these “in the clear” open channels on satellite (small dish systems that look just like DishNetwork TV type systems) You can do the Google search yourself. They are known as Free to Air….or FTA systems. I dont know of anyone who sells them local but I am sure there might be…(anyone care to share the venders names?) They are lots of them for sale on Ebay. And once you find them a local satellite installer can do the rest if you don’t have the confidence or the time to do it yourself.

Recent advances in technology now make it possible on some cell phones system/accounts to receive streaming audio from the net on these as well. This obviously works best if you have a program with free minutes somewhere in the week/day, etc. I dont have the details on this, but if you are so inclined you might explore your options….

I dont have any Sirrus system experience but truckers and others who are Audio Dependent have options on those radio station programs that are carried there as well…Your optons have been increasing over the past few years.

For those who enjoy Talk Radio and have become attached to those programs that are leaving the Valley January first you do have some options. If anyone else has any other suggestions like the above mentioned please share them here for others to benefit.

Bob, feel free to listen online to KPAM, Portland, Ore. who carries it live. Their commercial breaks on the stream start to drive you crazy though.

What exactly don’t you like? The fact that a majority of the programming is now LIVE? The fact that Am 63 KIDO has the only LIVE and LOCAL talk show on in the middays? Currently, only 4 1/2 hours of the weekday broadcast schedule is recorded/delayed. That leaves 19.5 hours of LIVE programming.

Show me what ratings Mr. Howard had… Show me what ratings he has anywhere other than the southeastern U.S…. Look, everyone nowdays is a “talking head”… Some are better than others.

I like the idea of a live show midday. Live and local is what radio is all about. Yes, national syndication brings some perspective to Boise, but, with so many hosts sounding the same, there isn’t all that much variety.

In fact I think KBOI and KIDO/KFXD should go head-to-head live and local from 6 in the morning to 10 at night. Hang the expense. Talk to ME about what matters HERE! I can learn about the bland world of politics in the 15 online papers I read everyday.

I tuned in yesterday, then just turned the radio off. Live? I don’t care if it’s live if it’s not good.

And KFXD didn’t have any ratings because “someone” either didn’t send in that little arbitron card, or it “somehow” got lost…

I am seriously disappointed that 630 dropped Ed Schultz. His is the biggest progressive talk show in the nation, and now we have NOTHING but reactionary Republican talk radio in Democratic-leaning Boise. What gives?

I called the station and was told the Schultz show simply didn’t generate revenue. I wonder if it was due to a lack of promotion on KFXD/KIDO’s part? When I mentioned the show to most folks, they didn’t even know it was on the air locally. If 630 would have promoted Big Eddie, I am sure he’d have found an audience (and advertisers) in the Treasure Valley.

I would tend to agree. Ed Schultz has a fantastic show and I often listened to it online.

The idea of promoting a single station probably stems from the confusion of call sign/frequency changes and having Jon and Chris move to the 630 frequency. So instead of trying to promote a decent line-up, they are shuffling the cards once again, giving it all the KIDO moniker.

Frankly, the new schedule will probably bring even less “real listeners” (not just diaries with KIDO on them) than what they had. Putting Dan Patrick on then jumping to a local show is non-sequitr. Sports fans and news/talk fans aren’t always one in the same.

It is hard to believe Big Eddie couldn’t be a player. He’s astute and offers a perspective little heard in Idaho. There have to be more Democrats out there, especially in light of what Barack Obama did in the state.

Schnitt is new, only been in syndication for a few months. Been in the Tampa area for many years, and does well. Give that show a chance, I think you will like it!
