Five cut at Citadel

Don Day | October 23, 2008

It’s not just Dan Tooker – a total of five employees were cut today I’m told.  Still working to confirm some of the names – but at least one other on-air person was let go.

Anyone feel like we just got over the first hump of the roller coaster and more loops are coming at us?

Radio group Citadel Broadcasting has made personnel changes at some of its stations in the Boise area:

    — Morning personality Dan Tooker, who aired from 5 a.m to 10 a.m. weekdays, is no longer with Top 40 station Magic 93.1 FM. Neither is his producer Casey. The third member of the morning show, MJ, will remain on the air. He’ll be joined by another Citadel employee as early as next week.

    — Country station KQFC 97.9 FM’s midday jock P.J., who aired from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., is no longer with the station. Fellow country station Kissin’ 92.3 FM’s night talent Rattlesnake Jake will move into PJ’s role on KQFC.

    — Part-time news anchor J Bates no longer will be heard regularly on sports station KTIK 1350 AM, but he’ll continue to contribute occasionally.

In addition to those stations, Citadel owns KBOI 670 AM and KKGL 96.9 FM The Eagle.

And people wonder why I got a real job! As much as I loved radio and still do, at the end of the day I have to take care of my family and the radio business on-air wise is just too fickle. I have to know that I have a job when I walk in on Monday. I feel blessed to not have to worry anymore about “Live by the book, Die by the book”, or these days “the economy”. I hope all those affected will land on their feet soon.
