Another irritating and tiresome example of how the corporate fat cats get golden parachutes while the working class underneath them get treated like kitty litter!!

Our job, as jocks or any other radio position, is to get good ratings and help the company make money. Very few, if any, of us would be allowed to KEEP our job if our ratings managed to drop by 75%, regardless of whether we could correctly argue that all radio station ratings went down. But do you think we would get to keep our jobs, and get an enormous stock bonus option also?

But what options do we have, right? We should all be "thankful" we are allowed to keep our jobs, right? Look at the job market, right? Where are you going to find a job out there in that job market, right? Which is exactly why they can pull this kind of trash and get away with it. I'm tired of feeling like a turnip while corporate keeps trying to get blood out of me.

"Well anyway… I remember one of the “bubbvision” anchors reporting pretty much the same thing regarding the justification for why US taxpayers get to help with those huge year end bonuses for the bankers and AIG types…that we just collectively bailed out.

"They need to 'keep the pay rates high to stay competitive…'

"Great work if you can get it."

Yup. Every time I read about executives of some company which has failed on a spectacular level getting a "performance bonus," I think, "Hell, I don't know squat about running a big business, but I could achieve the same outcome and I'd do it for 10% of what they're paying that clown."

I think I've come to appreciate the Japanese culture where a failed businessman will do the right thing and off himself. In THIS country, these jokers just move on to another company and ruin IT.

I mean, what's funnier than Carly Fiorina, who trashed H.P., being John McCain's economic advisor? Golly, I can't imagine why he lost the election.

They main part of the story was omitted. As of now, they have been given nothing. "Stock will vest and become nonforfeitable on Dec. 23, 2010 if a given recipient is still employed with the company".
This is not a cash bonus either. It is just shares of stock that don't really cost the company anything. It is also in the recipients best interest to work even harder to increase the stock value for the shareholders and themselves. That is their job. It should not have been spun into "they get bonuses and people get laid off".

Editor's note: Omitted how? Quoting: "The options will vest in two years, as long as the execs are still with the company." The story wasn't spun any direction - they are being given bonuses as long as they stay with the company - while some of their employees aren't being given the option to... stay with the company.

Hey Rich, with that in mind...Their stock might be the only thing you will still be able to buy at the Dollar Store when inflation starts to heat up...

"A Journal rep told Inside Radio the bonuses were needed to keep the execs through 'current media industry and macro-economic challenges, as well as the longer-term evolution of the media industry'.”

I remember when the Journal philosophy was that ALL employees were important to the company. I'm sure the peons know where they stand NOW.

Smooth move taking the company public, Journalistas. Now you're no different from any other soul-less corporation.

Be sure to think of these "essential" executives when you eat Ramen noodles for dinner--again.

Journal stock will never see $8.94 again.

89-cents on the other hand is easily within reach.
