In response to Don's note concerning KIVI -- The KIVI news made it's debut on KGEM this week. All the KIVI local newscasts will be carried on 1140-AM, unless, of course, they get pre-empted by sports.

Editor's note: Saw this last night - and plan to note this on the main blog when I get a second.

Ummmm, local radio? Live and local? Wasn't that the Peak hype? Jon and Chris gone. Surely lil' ol' Boise has grown enough to have maybe a little bit of a local talk-ish show besides the boys in the morning. Come on, Lars (I AM Portland) Larson with a break for, oh...oops, I guess broadcasting TV News from Channel 7 makes the afternoon drive time live and local. I love TV without pictures...don't they call that radio?

Some of you may remember 1340 AM KANR. It existed prior to Jeff Caves buying it out, changing the call letters to KTIK and launching the all sports talk format that is now ESPN Radio 1350 KTIK "The Ticket".
KANR was 24/7/365 of CNN Headline News. It was handy if you had not heard news al day or if you were following a national news story and could not be near a TV. But, it soon grew thin and wore out it's welcome.
KTVB has tried this experiment before. It seems to flop every time something happens at KFXD or KIDO. It seems like KIDO ihas found a method of getting much needed ratings points inexpensively. I guess we'll see how it works out.

Also of note: KIVI's news will cease being available over the air on 87.7 FM as of Feb. 17 when the national analog shutdown occurs.

Here's a challenge. If I were running a business (or even an ad agency) why should I buy time any of those shows/stations. I can hear these hosts (or many like them) almost anywhere around the county. What's so special about having them on Boise radio?

This is going to be very interesting. I haven't heard a radio station broadcast news from a TV station in years. Second, Did you know that AM 63 KIDO back in the late 80's use to broadcast channel 2 news. Third, I know 630 still has the call letters of KFXD. Isn't it interesting that back in 1992 and most of 1993 KFXD when it was on 580 use to broadcast all the news from KTVV Monday through Friday. That included Idaho at Sunrise, the first half hour of the Mid Day Report before they went to CNN Headline news at the bottem of the hour, Idaho at 5:00 news at 6:00 and the 10:00 news. Let's go to 16 years later and now KFXD/KIDO is now broadcasting the KTVV news only during the 5:00 hour. This is very interesting.
