Wild n’ out

Don Day | January 17, 2009

KWYD/Wild 101.1 was off the air again today — at least the fourth time I’ve tuned into hear static over the past two months. Proof I suppose that putting a new station on the air isn’t the easiest engineering task there is…

So was 98.7 (same site) 1490, and 94.9. It was a POWER OUTAGE.

Editor’s note: If 94.9 was off the air… it wasn’t for as long as KWYD. It’s becoming a COMMON OCCURRENCE.

Don, Thanks for listening so loyally!

Editor’s note: That seems to be the company line these days. Catch us off the air for hours?! You must be loyal!

Rest assured Don, if there is an opportunity to take a shot at Impact you never miss it. What John meant is the fact that that you rarely comment on other off air events but ours. As to a common occurence we have been on since October 31st.

Since then we have been off three times. Once due to a BAD piece of new equipment at the site, once to replace the BAD component and this latest when heavy frost brought the sub-station down outside of Marsing after first sending power fluctuations down the line killing MORE equipment. Thanks for for concern! Don’t respond on my behalf I’m taking a couple months off from IRN.

Hmmm…. I don’t show 94.9 (River) being off … unless just momentarily. If it’s off more than 20 seconds, the auxilliary comes on a minute later, and my phone starts ringing. It can be off up to about 15 seconds and I won’t know it, but beyond that …. I would have known.

There was a Sunday a few weeks ago 1490 was off for a few hours, but that’s it.

When the substation fault happened it caused two quick brownouts system wide. Nearly all Deer Point FMs cycled off & on. It was a good minute after the sags I checked the dial. Found those off the air. 1490 was still off 5 minutes later.

I stand corrected … approx 6:45pm on the 17th, 94.9 did go to the aux tx, which can take anywhere from 70 – 90 seconds to come up (I said a minute in the previous post — sorry ‘ bout that). It was about 6 – 7 minutes later I restarted the main and we came back to full power. Since I was on the phone with the 94.9 remote control, I missed the call from 1490. Started it back up some time later (can’t recall now exactly what time). 94.9 would have been in static for that 70- 90 seconds it takes the Aux to come up.
